Bachmann also want to sell you a Brush 2 TOPS 30/31

Far and away the most successful of all BR's pilot scheme diesels. Every modeller of BR to near present should have some. Looks like Bach may have the cab shape correct...

And fitted with Bachmann's new, automatic tension lock uncoupling. Looks and seems to work well. Shame it uses horrid tension locks though!

BTW, when you say the 30/31 was a roaring success, could you expend the whys anf wherefors?

Yeah, so good they had to re-engine the whole lot after ~10 years.

I think the class 20 would have good argument for being the most successful pilot scheme engine.

Robust design conferred its length of time in service, and found capable of considerable power output upgrade when experimentation toward power unit replacement was found necessary. (Crews liked it too, the ride comfort was appreciated.)

But then again, the robust frame design meant this was practical.

Clearly, the only other contender. The Brush 2 wins points for its additional capability, inherent to the twin cab format and space for train heat provision; the EE type 1 for simple and robust. Choose your horse?
