GWR 6-wheel coach

Post by Lysander »

A recently finished knock-up: a Dia. U20 6-wheel Composite / Passenger Luggage carriage made from parts of two Triang Clerestories, two scrap Ratio 4-wheel coaches and the usual bits and pieces from the bits box. The windows are actually too large for the prototype and other compromises abound, it's different enough to be interesting however and the fully-flanged 6-wheel chassis will cope with first radius curves if necessary.

That's very unique. I like it. :)
Interesting to see the work in progress and finished model shots too.
Thanks

Fantastic job and the joins are barely detectable.

Hi Tony,

An absolute 'Cracker' - I'd love one, but I could
never achieve a finished coach, it would vanish
into the someday pile !!

Put it on an exhibition layout and listen for the expert chunterings about its origin as an 1878 BG design, regauged and last reported running on the Osnorthry to Llanfandduan services into the early 1930s...

The 'finished vehicle' photo is doubly effective with the slightly out of focus buildings in the background.

Well, it was originally a BG coach! After passenger use it became a Camp Coach in the early ‘30s and finished life in Departmental use, with scrapping in ‘54. But there are certainly lots of rivets missing!

Thanks all for your comments.

The whole build - which is by absolutely no means essential reading - is here:
