Don't try to read every topic from the start, life's too short. Use the quick links (top left just below the heading) new posts and active topics are probably the most useful. There's a search box top right, it's a fairly basic search so just feed it one or two word requests. There's an advanced search facility, if you have some experience of using search engines you can get some pretty good results, but it can either find nothing or feed you hundreds of matches if you ask the wrong question.
If you can't find an answer just ask, somebody will know or point you to where it's been answered before.
