New logging/mining layout
New logging/mining layout
Hi!
After a pause of 6 years in modelling, i decided to start over again.
This time i have in mind a 1400mm x 600mm layout.
On30 gauge, logging or mining scene.
What do you think about it?

Very nice. Be aware that only certain 0n30 locos and stock will turn sharp curves, but other than that it looks good.

You could straighten the siding to make another passing loop.
Thanks

Just an idea. Thanks

I'm going to use a Porter and other short locomotives.
Re: New logging/mining layout
I was thinking to make the siding to the logging camp/mine to have some purpose for the layout not just trains circling around.End2end wrote:You could straighten the siding to make another passing loop.

Re: New logging/mining layout
I prefer the origional plan. I would curve the straight section slightly so it does not look too straight for added scenic effect. This prevents the eye from looking at the straight side of the layout and seeing straight track, but that is only if the straight is going to be a scenic view, but yes, it looks a lovely plan.
While the second idea will give more siding space, it may look a bit too crowded.

The first turnout (the one leading to the logging site) has been built:

Very nice. Is that code 75 or code 80 rail?

Looking at that point I ask myself, "why does his trackplan have straight lines in it? There's no need to be constrained by settrack like straights and curves.

You think, if I make the straights curved, it will be more realistic?Bufferstop wrote:Looking at that point I ask myself, "why does his trackplan have straight lines in it? There's no need to be constrained by settrack like straights and curves.

Quick spray paint on it:

Re: New logging/mining layout
Mining and logging railways stuck to the contours as closely as they could, they weren't intended to last too long so minimal earthworks was the policy, which means hardly any straight bits!
