The Micro layout 'mission creep'

Hello all,

Anyone can call their layout a 'Micro' even if it's 8 ft long and of course they are quite entitled to do so.

BUT

A micro layout is 3 to 4 Square Feet or less with a reason for being, with operating potential and regardless of scale.
Anything over that is a 'Small' layout up to 24 Square Feet or 4ft x 6ft

Who said so? Carl Arendt, from the start of his website in 2002 until 2011 when he died. Why am I saying this because the definition has strayed from Carl's original concept. He spent the last ten years of his life promoting micro and small model railway layouts and I prefer to adhere to his legacy.
