ikea desk as a base for modular N gauge layout?

Planning to build a modular N gauge layout. No space at all for permanent layout. Will have to be hung on walls when not in use.
Ikea desks appear to be suitable.

They are 60x120cm (23x46 inches) or 60x100.
Legs are detachable on just 3 screws each. Would be easy to assemble / disassemble.
Boards are lightweight. Sturdy. Nicely finished edges.
The laminate (and chipboard underneath) seems to be suitable for screws and nails.
As for gluing on to, laminate can be sanded easily.
The legs are steel and I believe can be cut to suit a lowered section with a river / bridge for example.
Can't fault it as far I can think but then again, I never built a layout.
As a bonus, the desks are cheap.

The table legs are great. I used the extendable legs on a previous layout.

Would be easy to assemble / disassemble.

But the table tops are basically a very fat piece of cardboard, you can't take them apart and put them back together many times before the screws holes don't quite hold the screws any more.
I think you'd be better off making your own tables tops. Design the top around the layout if you can, rather than the other way around.
