New 1/32 Diorama but this time in slow motion
Re: New 1/32 Diorama but this time in slow motion
Hi Ex-Pat
Thank you for your attention to my collection of 'happy accidents' and also for the humor in your words.
Both are excellent delicacies that the muses appreciate and so do I.
It looks this diorama will be done by the end of the year because the Muses are already throwing against my head the theme in photos below (and many more photos) expecting for my lone brain cell's mixer to compose a new diorama (... regardless of the many previous proposals they have been making during the pandemic!

Those 2 bridges with the waterfall look very interesting subjects.

Yes, they certainly do!
Still, the core of the whole will be the three roads joining at the foreground, at the middle of the scene.
The central road will go down under a wooden bridge and reach at the back the beach and the water.
The road going left will go up and split with one stroke going ahead to the left in a gentle curve and the right one across the bridge going to the right.
The thir road at the foreground will go sharply up in a curve towards the right end of the diorama...
As usual plenty of trees in all levels...
...BUT... it is not imposible that before that happens this scene with own 'separatist sentiments' makes me change it all:

Saomething went wromng and the first half of the message with photos vanished so here again:
These are some improvements in the tools I use for making the barrel roof tiles...

I have formed a thousand tiles already and there are another 1500 to be formed but with those thousand now ready I can complete this roof.
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention: this roof is for replacing the cast one already in the building with the ocher shop front.

Re: New 1/32 Diorama but this time in slow motion
Thankyou, Mountain.
Those are not just 'ridge tiles' also if they are, indeed, used for ridges in roofs made with other types of tiles.
These are Spanish tiles (also called 'Arabic' because it's said the 'Mopros' brought them to Spain. But anyway
also the Roman had several variations of the design. Nowadays the usual nime is 'barrel' and sometimes 'Colonial' tiles.
For a decade I've been very happy with my tile roofs cast in plaster but after making the Valkenburg' diorama I prefer by far individual tiles except for modeling roofs in perfect condition or very lightly weathered. But this diorama is all very old, poorly maintained heavy weathered stuff so I removed the cast roof and here I am, gluing tiles one by one. Approx 900 of them.

It would be very easy to make a perfect roof with evry single tile properly aligned by using for every row a strip of wood clamped at both ends to the roof's thickness, but a properly aligned rtiles are the worse thing one could get after looking a lot of images of such roofs from the 1880's until the 1920's.
That is one of the many aspects I loved in the MK-35 cast roofs I have been using for more than ten years.
The one thing I still must improve in my version that the MK-35 roofs had are the broken tiles.
I don't need to get 50% of them in a roof but something as 5 to 10% would be great so before I lay the upper layer of tiles I will make about a hundred 'broken tiles' using an old scissors (enough to cut 0.6mm aluminum), the dremel with different discs, safety glasses and a paper mask to avoid inhaling flying aluminum particles.
a an old scissors (enough to cut 0.6mm aluminum), the dremel with different discs, safety glasses and a paper mask so as not to block flying aluminum particles.

With the black primer still wet (below) it is not easy to see that but once painted & weathered it will be obvious...

Re: New 1/32 Diorama but this time in slow motion
The roof is set in it's place but just for the photos. Before gluing it must undergo a serious weathering, some decoration (mosses and such things), the still open places under the ridge's sides must be filled with cement and, most important, the interior of the shop must be done.

I used 0,6mm aluminum for the tiles but I will try 0,7mm and 0,8mm before I start next roof.
0,8mm may be a bit too thick for 1/32 but probably will look the best because will confer a more appropriate heavy look to the tiles...

The two lead pieces (from two cannibalized 0e Magic Train diesels) are there just to hold the roof in place until the glue dries but, yes, I still must make the chimneys for all three buildings.
Anyway the two new wooden ridges need colour retouching yet.
