I hear there are some rusty locomotives etc. available from Messrs Fleabay and Airfix.
I saw most of mine at Locomotion, Shildon.

Thanks, OldGuy.OldGuy wrote:Awesome layout !
It's a fun to operate layout. A simple plan that I and my grandchildren enjoy.
My grandchildren (five of them. Three boys and two girls) have been running trains on the layout since they were three year old. Some may think I was mad to allow that. They did break some of the scenery, but it was easily repairable. I never was angry with them. Now they are older they ask to be in the train room. I can leave them to operate things by themselves. They just run trains the way they want.
One day we will be able to run trains to a timetable; either steam or diesel. Until then 'who cares'.

That is what I like about the old Lima and Hornby stuff. It is relitively durable. Todays models have an abundance of parts which can be accidently knocked off by careful adults, let alone children! And yet the old Lima and Hornby stuff didn't look that bad and captured the general "Look" of the real thing which is what one was aiming for.
You do have the odd loco missing its buffers. I once used a typenof glue such as UHU which one could glue holepunch discarded circles onto the buffershanks to represent buffers until I could get some "Official" buffers for them. Drawing pins are too large for 4mm scale, but some tacks or thin nails could make possible bufferheads...
These are spares which in the past nearly every model railway shop used to sell and both Hornby and Lima buffers were interchangable as the holes were a similar size. Was only the size of the bufferhead one was trying to get right.

Re: Diesels at Crown Point and Sovereign St.
The layout has been rewired for more operators to work at the same time. The new control at Clarence Dock plus a little more scenery in the process of being added.
We bought some 'flickering' battery operated tealights for Christmas. I 'borrowed' two.

Re: Diesels at Crown Point and Sovereign St.
To make it a more interesting operating session the diesel yard at Crown Point Yard has been dismantled.
In its place is to be a Goods Yard with a small diesel refuelling facility.
New trackwork being laid ad tested by running locomotives and carriages.
As the yard is a representation of the real Leeds Hunslet Lane Goods Yard prior to it closing and becoming Crown Point Retail Park, its name is Crown Point Yard.
Now more goods wagons can be seen on the layout.

Train of container wagons passing Charlie Marston's Yard.
Containers. The left one at original. The other two were well worn. and the decals removed and 'Craigellachie' ones added.
Our younger granddaughter asked to have some lights. After placing them 'her way', the result.

Once upon a time I built a model railway in the loft. Now I dabble on much smaller baseboards.

Simply old Airfix kits built a long, long time ago. Rusted up somewhat. Brought back into use one could say.Dave-00 wrote:

I like to model things that are different and rarely (if ever) seen on model layouts.

Re: Diesels at Crown Point and Sovereign St.
Now I have made Crown Point Yard into a goods yard and small diesel yard, it has become impossible to run freight trains from the yard to Sovereign Street and back.
Therefore, to keep a small diesel fueling area a three way point has been added to connect to a turnout on the main line.
Now goods traffic has access to Sovereign Street.
The unconnected track has rolling stock 'on show'.

Amongst all that lovely detail, the little Murgatroyd truck full of interesting 'stuff' caught my eye.

Murgatroyd. A good old fashioned Yorkshire name. Just right for a Leeds based layout. Yeah!Phred wrote:Amongst all that lovely detail, the little Murgatroyd truck full of interesting 'stuff' caught my eye.
