This must be some kind of record, the Planet Industrials has been on the layout for over a week and it still hasn't had the top off. No need it's heavy enough for the job and the gearing is perfect for the speeds it needs.

My Planet locomotive is a little gem and runs so pleasantly. Well worth the money.

In my case only truly necessary to have the body off to install the decoder. And the operation is all as it should be, two easily identified and accessible screws, body lifts off, replacement equally straightforward: while the body was off I took the oppportunity to inspect the neat and tidy mechanism construction.

Altogether as it should be in all respects, if this outfit produces anything further in OO I will be very interested. I have suggested that they might consider the North London Railway Park class 75 0-6-0T: a company loco that looks like an industrial loco, and from a railway with no RTR offerings to date. As a bonus it was latterly also used on the Cromford and High Peak operation.

Experimenting with cotton wool steam, haven't tried that for ages. I'm waiting for someone to complain that their water mist smoke unit makes the scenery soggy!

do wonder if you run a few of them gizmos, firstly you will spend most of your running session trying to keep up with refilling them as the amount of water they hold is ridiculously small. secondly unless you have a set up so turning them off as they go into tunnels and back on as they come out works I think the potential to cause issues with damp, while small, is not zero

combined with they produce a few wisps and not a heavy smoke effect anyway I do wonder what the point is, beyond Hornby trying to tick a box currently no one else does and I wonder how long before this is something they stop adding

I seriously wonder how long these units will keep working. I was impressed by the flame and smoke effects produced by a dummy log burner that uses this mechanism under the name of "Optymist" two units over a period of four years failed to continue to work much after three months of use, even replacing all of the active components in them could get them going again. I'll hold my judgement!

I know when I first saw the effect on one of my nephews toys (Thomas I think it was), it did seem to last, so the theory of the idea that it can be made to last a long time is there and it did take a while before the "Smoke" ran out of water.... But toys have a lot more room than models have, and I don't know if the heating elements will be to the same quality as they were in the kids toys due to needing them to fit in a small space? It was around 20 years ago when I came across this kids toy as I had never seen one work from water before. Had the smoke oil type on toys in the past when I was little, but not water to make steam like these toys did!

Thank you, Lancastrian.

Yes, it has been nigh on four months since a train has run. Got to get back into running trains, a war to be won.
