Hello
I have been re-laying part of Little Weldon's trackwork not that there has been any problems.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a crate of track from the Car Boot sale for a bargain price. Amongst the pieces were several Points both manual and electric, Diamond Crossings, short curves and a number of pre WWII sections including a RH non isolating Point.
I changed the Point on the Down line loop leading into the Sidings for one in better visual condition. The RH Point connected to this I replaced with the pre-war RH so I now have an example of both Left and Right hand pre-war points on the layout. I have also been changing over some of the other sections with nicer conditioned pieces.

Hello
There has been an increase in the population of the Weldon's. With a number of Station Staff joining the ranks and yet more passengers. The Porter's on Weldon Station now have a rather nice Battery Trolley with Trailer. There are also several more figures that have just got out of a nice relaxing Dettol bath.
All of the latest arrivals are Wardie Master Model pieces.

Hello all
I think that yesterday I bought the Car Boot sale find of the year. A whole bunch of Dublo for the princely sum of £50.00. There was a quantity of Dublo track predominately 1st radius curves and a few other pieces. I sorted out the pieces I wanted and put the remainder on our stall. Where it was quickly bought for £20.00. The pieces I kept were a rare "Southern" N2 and a rarer Southern Brake Van. A Duchess of Atholl with an unusual body casting a factory error which resulted in only 2500 being made. A pair of LMS coaches and a NE Brick Wagon plus some sections of trackwork.

That would be very rare. You have to love the way H-D just slapped on a livery per big 4 group - I imagine the argument went 'They all had a biggish 0-6-2T, and this looks as much like a GW, LMS and SR type as it does the GNR/LNER class it is named for' - did they ever venture any pre-group liveries?Dublo wrote:... a rare "Southern" N2 ...
Sounds like you had a good day at the CBS.

A good bit of shopping there, Dublo.

Re: New / Old - Little Weldon
No but, according to Michael Foster's history of Dublo, when Tri-ang brought out their Lord of the Isles, someone brought one along to a meeting at Hornby of the people involved in forward product planning and suggested that Dublo do something similar. There was some enthusiasm, but there wasn't any money left in the company by then, so the idea was shelved. None of the earlier Dublo products were finished in pre-group liveries by the factory, and any Dublo you see finished thus are repaints, like this one of mine (which, in addition to being repainted, was extended at the rear):Bigmet wrote:did they ever venture any pre-group liveries?Dublo wrote:... a rare "Southern" N2 ...

Hello all
I have developed an interest in contemporary products for use on the layout.
This is leading me into the world of Rolling Stock kits, I recently acquired this rather magnificent Kit or Scratchbuilt Coach. I really dont know the pedigree of this the Chassis is Brass, the Floor is Wooden and the ends are cast White Metal. I have yet to discover what the Sides and Roof are made of. There are no makers markings of any description that I have found so far. The Coach also weighs a whopping great 188g.
Could any body please help me identify this lovely model ?

Hello
Does any body remember these kits ? Have you any advice on the assembly and painting of them ?
I have never made a Wooden Coach before but I am looking forward to it.

Hello all
I must admit that no modelling has taken place on the Weldons for the last couple of months.
I have added to the vintage kit collection, when these vehicles have been constructed I'm hoping they will add to the variety of trains that can be run. There is a major event occurring in September, a complete re-wire of the house. I'm not sure how much of an impact this is going to have on the layout if any. I don't like the uncertainty of it.

CCW coach kits, that's a 'blast from the past'. (I suspect your GWR coaches are from the same source, or a competitor offering much the same construction.) I would think of them as a 'scratch-aid' rather than a constuction kit in the modern use of the term.
Assembly of the wooden parts is simple enough with PVA, provided they are not warped. It's the finishing that is the challenge. The wood needs to be primed and rubbed down, and then undercoated to try and prevent the finish coat(s) raising the grain. It's typically best to do as much as possible of the paint prep and detailing before assembly, and the roof can be completed and finished before attachment to the body shell.
Materials combinations varied too, pressed and/or cut metal parts could be brass aluminium or steel.
Dimensions: These should be checked, length in particular; a level surface and an engineer's square should be employed to assemble true. Watch out for incorrect bogie centres if a diagram is provided, it was a commonplace to put the bogies closer to the vehicle ends to allow use of the two commercial couplers then generally available. The bogies were typically provided with very tall bosses for the pivot too, and the builder expected to file them down for correct height if required.

Hello all
Thanks for the advice Bigmet I shall bear that in mind when I make a start.
There has been another increase in the population of Little Weldon. This group is quite interesting as they were packaged and sold by Trix Twin
Railways ( TTR ) but made by Britains.

Re: New / Old - Little Weldon
I never handled a CCW Coach kit but did have some of the whitemetal bogies. They were almost impossible to assemble square, as the one sideframe was designed to turn on its central fixing screw to give a form of compensation. Just turned out really sloppy.
If the coach body goes together OK I'd be tempted to mount it on a pair of appropriate modern bogies.

Hello all
Thanks for the advice Bufferstop, from what I can see the Bogies appear to be already assembled. But I may twist your advice a little and substitute a pair of Dublo D1 Bogies I'm not sure how modern standards would fare on HD three rail trackwork.
