Hello all
Firstly I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
Here's a few photos of Little Weldon as it is seen once a year during its annual clean. In these shots the layout is six hours into the clean. All of the removable items have been taken off. The track work has been thoroughly cleaned, the entire layout has been hoovered with several layers of stocking covering the nozzle. The removable pieces have been brush dusted I find a soft WaterColour brush ideal for this and replaced. The layout is now ready for the return of the loco's and stock.

Looking sharp!
I was thinking wow, 6 hours. But if you dont stay on top of the dust accumulation it gets out of control and somewhat sticky and is a monster to clean. Is there much in store for the layout this year?
Cheers,
Josh

Hello all
Yesterday I had the first running session after the "big clean". Every thing worked exactly as it should and in all was a pleasant way to spend a cold January afternoon.
Some thing I hadn't done for a while was to have a "Duchess" run.
I have a number of things to do on the layout this year some of which I have been putting off for a good number of months. Station nameboards, Point Rodding, painting some 3D printed figures I have acquired and finishing off the Windmill. Just to name a few. At the moment every time I go into the Railway Room the controllers magically get plugged in trains are running, and well you just have to go with the flow.

Some lovely photos Dublo.
Quite an interesting shot of the engines at the level crossing. What actually catches my eye is the terraced houses in the backscene, and only a little imagination is needed and those trains are passing by that village in the background. Its always a very imaginative layout.

Hello all
A couple of the latest purchases for Little Weldon.
A Gaiety N2, this particular model is a 2 rail version so conversion and a repaint is needed. The body is currently soaking in a bath of Dettol.
A lovely Wardie Master Model Bus Shelter.

Hello
Things are progressing well with the Gaiety N2 with the body completely stripped of paint after several days submersion in a Dettol bath. I have now managed with a little fetteling to fit it to a Dublo N2 chassis. This morning she undertook running trials a little more work with the front coupling needed. Just waiting now for the weather to calm down so I can take her outside and spray paint her.
All the ground works have now been completed in the Sheep field for the siting of the Airfix Windmill.
A good weekend on the Weldons.

Love the model bus shelter. I've never seen one before.

Hello all
I have managed to finish the Gaiety N2, heres a couple of photos of her during her first running session. The Wardie Bus Shelter is one of the rarer pieces from the range and to find one in this condition is exceptional. Maybe a box for it will turn up one day.

Hello all
It's been a quieter weekend on the Weldon's this week.
We've been down to the Allotment and started getting it ready for this year.
Although I have made my first ever Peco Wonderful Wagon kit, the price on the end of the box 11/6. I really enjoyed making this so I shall be looking for some more in the future.
I have found a Trix Twin Engineering Department Crane and match truck minus its hook, although it has the coarse wheels so its a bit bouncy over d
Dublo point work. May be I'll change the wheels over. However it does look good sitting in a siding.
Finally another piece of stock has arrived a Graham Farish Formo Brake Van.

Hello all
How about some of the latest Black and White's of Little Weldon, I'm still trying to recreate that fifties feel.

The N2 looks a decent model, I always wondered why Gaiety went for the same model as HD, the chassis maybe! By the time I heard of them they were only selling bodies. I bought the pannier tank version and butchered it onto an early Triang jinty chassis. It ran ok but what prototype was heaven knows.
Growing old, can't avoid it. Growing up, forget it!

They even used the same (but BR, prefixed by 4) number as Dublo used for their "LMS" version of the N2, which is odd to say the least.Bufferstop wrote:The N2 looks a decent model, I always wondered why Gaiety went for the same model as HD

Hello all
The N2 appeared to be a popular choice for toy / model manufacturers during the fifties, I have seen a period advert from Bonds of Euston also of a OO gauge N2.
There are a number of differences between the Dublo model and the Gaiety, some of which are only noticeable after careful study of the two. The most obvious is the casting of "coal". Meccano introduced this much later.

Hello all
I mentioned a few posts ago that I have made my first vintage Peco Wonderful Wagon kit. This has made up into a nice model which I enjoyed the assembly of. It is managing to run well on Dublo trackwork as well, for those that may not be familiar with these kits they are of mixed construction. With the chassis made from injection moulded plastic components assembled onto a White Metal base which forms the lower half of the body too. The upper half is again plastic as is the roof. There is a form of compensation designed into the construction along with sprung Buffers. Finally the body is covered in an embossed cardboard outer casing. The wagon has been placed in the centre of a mixed freight and runs well.
Just out of interest I weighed the three different types of Vented Van I regularly run.
