Modern image 6ft x 20 inch depot kinda layout :)

Postby smeghead28 » Sun Jun 18, 2017 9:08 am

No name or specific theme but will be mostly DRS purely because I like the livery, may well also feature some Colas stuff based on the same criteria ;)
Roughly 6ft x 20 inches, tradk is pretty much Peco set track with the exception of the points on the main board which are Streamline, set track points used in the fiddle yard purely to save space.
Points are operated by Peco PL10 point motors.
Will put a picture of the wiring up under the board when the ballast has dried so I can turn it over, tried to keep it as neat as possible underneath.
Control is DCC by use of a NCE Powercab, sound will feature over time but I want to buy a few locos first and then will put sound in them eventually.
Also made a 12v DC power bus out of copper tape that all the lights will eventually solder onto.

Wonderful switching layout. I'll follow this thread with great interest.

Not much to update with :)
Dismantled my previous layout and recycled some of the buildings to this one,the fuelling point as well as the industrial unit.
Added a couple more bits of clutter as well as a row of gritting bins along the fence.
The ground signal will work and will be switched in conjunction with the point, maybe not to "prototype" but I don't care ;)

A great start and much faster progress than me. My only slight critisism is the gritting bins, I'm not too sure councils will be bothered about a dirt track getting frozen in winter. I do really like the track though, very well modelled.

Very slow progress but used some MDF i had left over to create an area of hard standing.
Needs a bit of weathering and deciding what i want to put on it :)
Dummy point motors also in place now need the conduit and lineside boxes to make it look a bit more purposeful.

Progressing slowly with the ballasting, starting to get the bare board covered over.
Done another hard standing area to reduce the amount of ballasting required a little bit :)

Back from the dead :D
Dug this out again during lockdown and decided to crack on with it.
Difficult to tell seeing as the previous pictures no longer work but I redid the top area which originally was just a storage area for locos and not scenic in anyway.
Made a top and put a few houses, cars, figures on it and started with some scenery, the storage sidings are still there, they are just hidden underneath now.
There is a gap in the back scene to reach in and get at any locos that might get into difficulty :D
Will add some more pictures at some point showing the rest of the layout as it stands, these just show the most recent progress.

Started remodelling the left section, was never that happy with the retaining wall there so now I have opened it out so at least there is now a way to get into the depot itself

Also just about finished the ballasting, few little gaps to go back and do again but other than that it is just about there.

This looks great. I missed it first time round in 2017.

The ground cover in front of the shops/houses looks really good.

It’s a nice tidy little layout. Top work.

Thanks

Thanks, by the time I started my dad wasn't very well and he died shortly after so I lost the will to carry on with it at the time and other things got in the way afterwards
Being furloughed encouraged me to get it back out and carry on.
Been trying to get a decent transition from scenic to storage, not too bad

Added a few walkway sections I had left round the portacabin/sidings area

New Colas class 37 along with a slightly decluttered area in the foreground, also added some greenery along the bottom of the retaining wall that runs virtually the whole length of the board.

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s nice that you have been able to return to this layout.

I really like the Colas livery too. I have a class 47 ‘Demelza’. It’s Heljan so weighs a ton and would pull a house down!!

The transition is good. I’d say you nailed it.

Looking forward to more updates.

Thanks
Dan

This is looking good. The police box on the corner could allow for some interesting cameo appearances- perhaps a cyberman or two lurking in the alley! The red car nicely hides the end of the world too. These bits of wasteland usually have a steel fence or wall to keep the public off and away from the railway- could always throw in a traffic cone or stolen bike that have been lobbed in there by the locals.
Once an engine attached to a train, was afraid of a few drops of rain...

Yeah there will be a fence/wall of some kind at some point.
Waiting till Scale Model Scenery have moved and are back up and running before ordering a few more bits, one of which will be some walling/fencing of some kind with perhaps some advertising boards.
Tided up the end where I opened it out so you could now get into the depot, bought a small table saw so more confident in cutting straight bits of wood, looks better now
