Like the engine shed, because the garage has skylights in the roof, you should be able to see all the lights from above!
Just glued the light frame, so will get some pics of installed, tomorrow.

The main roof lighting rig was wired up, a single led fitted to the office and both connected to my standard servo wire connector. Unfortunately as I used a 3mm LED, it left a pool of light on the office floor! Not good! So I made a 'sock' of tissue paper (which won't burn like it would on bulbs) to diffuse the light, it now has a relatively even spread.

An unexpected additional light was added to the corner of the office tonight!

Couple more stages done to the showroom roof and made a start on the lighting rig. I now need to conjure up and develop my 500W flood light LED for the car lot and possible use to light the 'Pete's Auto's Sign above the roof, I guess something similar to the one over the booking hall viewtopic.php?f=22&t=44849&start=165#p631184. Also need to either start the car lift or lit pumps next!

What sort of cars will you have? Alvis 12/50? Something more modern like a Volvo PV ? How about a bit more I to the 1980's with a Ford Cortina or a Volvo 340, or if one wants a sporty version the 360GLT? Or a rarer car like the Reliant Fox?
Today's cars? Umm. A Kia or a Fiat 500? Or how about a Renault Clio?
Lots of choice there.

Mountain, what type of dealership is already known.The period of the layout is rule No1, between 1950's and 1970's. (Steam, BR green/Blue). Like the huge collection of rolling stock, I have been amassing a similar stockpile of cars over 30 years! I have not done a stock check, but I would estimate in the region of 200-300. Mostly Cararama. I happened to be holidaying in South Wales and and slipped away for the day with a fellow enthusiast to a Model railway show. One of the dealers had a glut of cars and was selling off cheap, he was offering at £2 each and had mostly VW Samba vans, so I offered him £10 and bought the lot! (cant remember but 8-12). Hence 'Pete's Auto's will be a VW center, specialising in minibus. I have acquired other deals of multiples of the same car, with the intent of using them on my car transporters (8 to fill), but of course I can't do that with the samba's as they are too big!

Finally got the last bit of the showroom roof glued, seems added to corners and two coats of paint. Phew, its taken over a week of short stages.

Still a bit of fettling required to join the two buildings and add the showroom doors. I took the tip of CD jewel cases and I am painting the frames on them!

Well the 'glass' doors are on and look pretty good, (pics to follow) I will forgive brit-in-bama for highjacking my thread, as it was a really good tip! I have created another 'light bar' similar to the one over the booking hall and installed over a sign on the showroom roof, all electrics are now complete. Next is the base board (this will be a diorama, which can be later integrated into the layout, when it finally built) which is 6mm ply (would normally use a 3mm thick base, but this monstrosity is nearly 2ft long), duly painted in grey asphalt. Looking to make pavement areas (I may have mentioned my dissolution with paper/cardboard models) I have started to make with plasticard, they are looking great, so now I have perfected the methodology, I have had to order a lot more plastic strip, to continue. I am really getting into this scratch building lark!

Well here is the pic, glass doors with handles fitted, a few cars in and the sign atop and lit. Beginnings of pavement started. Off to Manchester show tomorrow, we will see what bits I can pick up!

I never noticed till I posted, the multitude of showroom 'spotlights' (total of 12 LED's) make sparkly reflections off the cars!

The car showroom looks excellent now, the lights really
bring it all to life reflecting off the cars. A lovely job.

That is a nice transformation of what is otherwise a rather plain Airfix/Dapol kit and shows just what can be done with a little imagination, some plasticard and lights.

Carnehan! The showroom and large garage building are both completely scratch built! Both have been created from a picture that's only in my minds eye.
Only the 'house' type building (now the shop) is a kit (and it's definitely not Airfix/Dapol - make unknown)

Timbersurf, It was the additions to that building with your own scratch built sections that I was highlighting with my previous comment, something I highlighted when mentioning imagination and plasticard. Perhaps it wasn't conveyed well enough.

As for that kit building, it resembles the General Store kit from Airfix/Dapol so closely that it was my assumption it came from that stable. I stand corrected.

Carnehan, it's easy to miss read what you said, as not quite what you meant. Obviously I did. As for the 'shop', I have just looked it up and discovered that you are spot on! It is indeed an Airfix/Dapol 'General store', not that I knew it existed, until now. As I didn't recognise it from memory of Airfix/Dapol range and it came with several other (quite definitely) continental kit built buildings I purchased on eBay, I assumed it was too. I offer my most sincere apologies to you Dave. Damn, I would not have used it, if I had thought it was that instantly recognisable !
