Loft layout

Post by Forfarian »

A few pics of my loft layout in DCC,a work in hand 2 year project so far!.
I decided not to ballast the track due to the amount of ballast required to cover 60mtrs of track, so I have only done between the tracks with a mixture of sand, ballast, fine grass and mixed scatter this allows for easy modifications in the future. Buildings are a mixture of Metcalf and scratch built. over all size is approx. 3mt x 4.5 mtr. Points are Peco Efrog with a mixture of surface and through base motors non of the frogs are powered.
I have 12 sound locos and another 20 non sound, DCC control is by Power cab with booster.

Hi Tim, I can't believe this is the first time you have shown pictures  . It looks really good, lots of progress for just 2 years!
I like the double engine shed, has it got lights? :D

The whole layout has lighting including the double engine shed, all done in LEDs including the floodlights. I will try and get a pic of it with the main lights off.

Been a bit quiet on the modelling front, I have decided I am happy with the track layout and I am going to ballast it just waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer.
I have been making LED ground signals for the goods yards,
Onwards and upwards, soon be the trout fishing season :D :D

I have been planning a few modifications to my layout, a few additional feet of track maybe a couple of points.
I need to build a goods shed and associated buildings with scenery for my latest acquisition a Heljan 128 parcels DMU to operate from/to, typical spending dosh before thinking  but it has started the winter building program off.

Hi Forfarian - missed your layout up to now, looks really great - looking forward to seeing your progress with the extension. are you basing your layout on any particular location or region?

I have started the small extension of the layout, baseboard fitted and goods shed made, thanks to Mike at Wordsworth,
Track in proposed place , but may not finalised yet, more meetings about meetings, coffee and brown milk to be consumed and elf & safe tea to be considered  I need to look at wiring for track power and points first. Pics to follow.

Astonishing and busy track work. The sight of all those trains picking their way through the network of points would be most dramatic. Could you be persuaded to post a bit of video? I bet it's a sight to see. I never was much of a train spotter, and being from the other side of the Atlantic, could you tell me what those diesel locomotives are? Deltics, perhaps? And is that red shunting locomotive on a stationary display. Nice touch.

What is the white blur on the end of the passenger rake pulled by the green steam locomotive? Is it a milk van?
