Adding a cinder path, some cinders around shed area and refuelling area, also planning to weather track, Black, Smoke etc. to represent, leaks, drips and spills from locos and rolling stock. (which I assume will be heavier around points and where locos stop more often).

Very impressed. Just the right era too! For me anyway.

This Signature Left Intentionally Blank, but since I have written this and I intended to do it, this Signature is intentionally not blank. Paradox or What?

Sure most of us can relate to this! Hopefully it will be fun and relaxation as you resume modelling.

I have added two cranes to the goods area today.

Image

I have been looking at my backscene and thinking I have never been 100% happy with the little factory, it looks a little hidey piddle and the brick is the wrong colour.

Image

At the end of the layout I have a nod to 'The Wall' which was the gable end to 'Ten Shop' aka 'Erecting Shop' Crewe works, but I wish it was longer so I am going to remove the little factory and replace it with a longer stretch of 'The Wall'.

I have been working but not updating here so here goes...

I liked me Camouflaged piece of Crewe works wall (as did a few others) but I wanted to go bigger! and I did not like the little factory complex at the back of layout therefore so alterations had to be made, demolish factory and build a new one.

Part 2 - To the left of layout I had a mock gateway which was flat, plain and needed improving, I saw a picture of Crewe Works Goddard Street entrance , I put 2 + 2 together and got working and this was the result.

larger layouts.

Part 3 - Some people looking at the layout were saying that a goods yard this size would not have a dedicated Engine Shed, I always thought that the shed being at the front of the layout was not balanced, hid some sidings and lacked detail so it's gone and replaced with a Conflat Loading/Unloading yard. Much better I think.

A note of caution relating to 'some people' and their opinions. The old railway put up no end of buildings, some of which ended their railway working life being used for a different purpose from that which they were originally constructed to serve. So should it happen that you like what you have built, don't bow to their opinion but explain that while it may look like a <insert building type here> it was converted into a <insert something else here> in 1871, consequent upon the merger of the C&DA and BHD railways duplicating the first building type in that locality, but finding they needed a facility to deal with the rapidly expanding fidget trade arising from the large scale adoption of Upwright's newly patented Crushing Frame in the area. Say it fast enough with a straight face...

G'Day Gents

Looking really good. I'll agree with Bigmet, The old Potato Market at Kings Cross goods is a good example, close in the 60's and left derelict for years, it may still be there but with another use.
