Plastic floor tiles????

Post by mikehextall »

I've got some spare laminate effect floor tiles from doing the kitchen and was wondering if they would be a suitable substitute for cork? They are about 5mm thick and come with sticky back on for easy application, probably not suitable for 00 gauge but seems a shame to waste them.

No expert but wouldn't think they would be suitable to rigid.
Cork has a spongy feel about it when compressed.

maybe do a test peice on some scrap board with a little track and see how it comes out. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say

The only stupid question is the one I didn't ask

You have to ask - why don't more people use floor tiles? If you look at old floors you can see what happens - Over time, the glue weakens and the tiles lift at the edges and corners and warp. Not what you want on a model railway.
