If the ballasting is anything like the Mavisbank photo then it will be superb and really bring it all to life.luckymucklebackit wrote: Mavisbank on the old layout as seen top left here

Thanks everyone, I always appreciate your comments, especially the positive ones!
I spent about two hours ballasting tonight, it doesn't get any easier, still a bit to do.

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Gateside starting to look presentable now that the dreaded ballasting is well underway. As I said in my last post I did the throat last night so it was set and ready for some weathering, thought at first I had overdone the brown but it looks not too bad in the photo. Station platforms done this afternoon so still wet.
I used Woodland Scenics Fine Ballast, coloured by Halfords Extra Matt Camouflage Brown and Rover Russet Brown.

Hi Jim,
I always appreciate weathered ballast - As a promising son of a Yorkshire man
I make do with Humbrol matt black (33) well washed in with vast amounts of thinners.
Nearly as good but at lower cost !!

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Hi all.
Started to think about signals. The original Gateside platform starters got badly damaged in storage, but also we're not correct for this track plan, so I have used the ones that were at Northbridge West end as they will not be needed for the new Northbridge. These signals have been around a bit having been built for Cumbernauld Model Railway Group's "Exchange Square" layout and have been to Model Rail Scotland three times. The evening sun gives some lovely natural light.
Cheers

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Evening everyone.
Bit of a watershed week as I had been waiting for new double glazing being fitted before proceeding with areas of the layout in front of the window. The new windows were fitted this week so the green light is now on for more progress. I filled the time by adding further detail to Gateside Mainline and I now reckon this station is 95% complete.
The canopy has been fully salvaged and refurbished. You can see that progress had also been made with Gateside Goods. This area also has the potential to be used as a temporary fiddle yard for operating the main station.
More bits of fine detail round the signalbox.
Bits of detail added to thd depot. The loco staff having a break have moved to Gateside.
Cheers

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Hi all, with Gateside essentially complete I have erected the barrier wall that will have the dual purpose of being part of the support structure for Mavisbank and also to separate Gateside Goods from the passenger station.
At the station end will be a rail connected distillery and bonded warehouse.
Does anyone make an 00 scale wagon turntable? I just want a dummy scenic one for here, if there was a 00 version of the 009 Peco one it would be ideal
Cheers

Jim. I have something similar to https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/falle ... gKfVvD_BwE
Obviously it would need 'cobbling together'. It does rotate (if you want it to).
Yours free if wanted. PM me.

Hi Glencairn, thanks for the very kind offer, let me think about that one, I was looking more for a purely scenic job that I can just glue in place with minimum work, but obviously if there is nothing like that I will take you up on your offer.
Thanks again
