Real tragedy that none of the class were ever saved or preserved in reality-surely just one could've been rescued,especially when so many Westerns were stored at Barry? Granted,many of those became preserved examples by pure chance & the County was withdrawn/disposed of way before the preservation movement was even thought of.
I tend to stick with preserved/heritage steam,so had one been saved,I'd have renumbered a RR version as that.
I gather Didcot are creating a replica to be known as 1014 'Glamorgan in appreciation of Dai Woodham.
Perhaps playing the modellers licence card & creating a fictionally-preserved County may be an option? I've found a place that offers 3/4 fictional County plates.......

Well you a fictious County wouldnt be needede

If your layout is not based on a real location they your modellers licence could be appiled to say they bought the locomotive before it was scraped

My location is semi-fictional,if that makes any sense.It's meant to be somewhere south of Morpeth/Alnwick,west of Blyth & north of the Tyneside loop.The time era is just past the sixties & into the seventies.The chances of a County class(all scrapped in about 1962) being slavaged are somewhat slim...............

See sticking to protocall when out ages ago when in the engine shed i will have a GWR County sitting next to a pre grouping GWR dean single ... but saying this both have had real life replicas built so it could happen in real life

Might well get one with some spare cash,then decide what identity to give it.Then again,for a few extra quid,there's the 2800's & 3800's with super detail.
Can't deny that the County really is an attractive little engine & for a modest size/amount of money,it seems they'll pull a fair bit.
Depends on when they introduce that LMS 1000 Compound into the range.Perfect preservation loco for my era that ran on the mainline at that time.

Highly recommended loco and if you keep an eye on eBay you can get a brand new one for around £30-£35 which is stunningly good value

Yep - strictly an early to mid 40's loco - FWH tried it to use the jigs for the LMS 8F boiler that Swindon were building for the war effort.

Was hoped that it was going to be a Pacific (by enthusiasts anyway!) - many were disappointed whrn it turned out to be another GW 4-6-0...

The design did address a few items that the GW had fallen way behind on (bless 'em) - like self cleaning smokeboxes, double chimneys and a return to 2 Cylinders for large mixed traffic locos.

One of the most interesting items for me, was the use of 6"3 drivers.....

to me it looks like It is a Princess body with a King running gear with the addition of the pony truck under the cab
the give away features are the seperate top feed ahead of the dome, the top feed on Swindon loco's are incorperated into the safety valve fitting,
the safety valves on top of the firebox and lack of the Swindon safety valve bonnet,

Thats the guy i got mine off in the end came to around £30 which was a bargining... bit unsure how he sells them so cheap
