Oh yes, even with that simple rough layout you are getting the atmos of the open sweep of the mainline, on the approach to the flyover. I feel this will look very impressive as it builds.

WOW! Coming along at great speed there Manna.
But do you have some hours track laying ahead of you! Need a circuit going to play trains while you build

Cheers,

G'Day Gents

In a comparison with what I had laid out to Pictures I have managed to find, I have worked out, one stock road was to short, and the Down Goods (Khyber Pass) was again to short, both have been lengthened.

The last two Plywood boards have been bought and have had one coat of varnish (on one side only) and will be made up into the last two baseboards, in the next few days.

Electrics, a very Basic wiring system will be employed, the points and signals will all be 'Hand Operated', there may be a few 'Wire and pulley' points in way out places.

But woodwork to the fore, with the 'Flyover' taking center stage. I'm also making a cardboard mock up of the three Tunnel mouths, two are at different heights to the Mainline tunnel.

hand operated works, means sadly there is no one else to blame, its worth having a computer sat in the corner of the room (doesn't have to be plugged in) as then everyone knows its the computers fault really

G'Day Gents

Edgware was hand operated, for well over 10 years. I only have myself to blame if anything goes wrong. I'm useless with electrics, do know how to gap the track and fit switches for the power, but other than that, Forget it.

The last two baseboards have now been built, one has been installed (that one is in the middle of the fiddleyard) the last board is waiting to be brought in from outside (varnish drying) that will happen today. An extra150mm has been added to the side of the mainline board, where the Khyber pass and Hertford flyover need to curve out.

This is one of the aspects that places a limit on this hobby's future, in a society that is increasingly encouraged to expect instant gratification. Will the hobby businesses react to simplify this aspect? All present signs suggest not...

it probably could be managed, and there are some products that do it, just expensive. using WiFi microcontrollers. you can also for control at least use the DCC bus and accessory decoders - the wifi option allows it to be two way, whats needed is a much nice out of the box experience to actually set it up and make it work

Quite so, the technical resource available is ample; it's a matter of imagination, the will, and a large budget to fund the system development and bring it to market. Inevitably it will be a set track system, flexi track systems will endure for those wanting the traditional hair shirt approach.

It's amazing how you can plan something out, then realise, it's just not enough room.
Going to be good to see that flyover take shape!

G'Day Gents

Time for an update. Cork has been laid, but as usual, I ran out of glue, I'll get more on Tuesday. So today I cut wood and more wood and some more wood. This is where I am tonight.

Reminds me a bit like the old flyover near Port Talbot.
