G'Day Gents

Hi Mountain, I've only ever been to Swansea, once, can't even remember Port Talbot.

Todays job was to extend the embankment past the flyover, this wasn't to difficult, but took a while to get right, there is another 'ramp' the other side of what will become the fiddle yard, so some of the upright supports, a loose and will stay loose until I know where all the tracks will go.

Swansea used to have lovely unique little 0-4-0 dock shunters, but also had (If I am right as going by memory of what I saw in books) a Garratt type loco onnone of the lines that was needed to take heavy trains on gradients outside Swansea.
Of course there was also the famous trams, and masses of dockline railways... A few railway companies met in Swansea in the past depending on the date.

I have finally hooked up enough track to have two complete circles, the Down slow, with connections to the down 'Hertford' line and the Down goods (Khyber pass). & the Down Hertford, again with connections to the Down slow and Down goods, more connections are needed, but I don't have enough points, that'll be next years project. I have found my controller, so that will probably be wired up so I can get something running.

I have laid more track, this time a separate circle, which will become the 'Up Hertford' (or Up Slow 2) Buckingham Rd bridge has been started, and some of the earlier track has been moved to accommodate the bridge, and to get everything into prospective, a few loco's and coaches have been rescued from there box's, after almost three years, with very little damage. I did find out the other day that 'Tram's' used to run over the Buckingham Rd bridge, on there way to Alexandra Palace, who knows I might be able to incorporate them into the layout later.

Reminds me I really do need some better LNER suburban stock than the "look its teak honest!" Hornby Clerestory coaches.

looking very good, lovely space you have it in and its already evocative :)

Nice to see some stock on the tracks - looking forward to seeing them running. What sort of points are you after?

Aleopardstail, Yep can't have a LNER layout without Teak coaches, find a damaged coach or just some plastic sheet and practice on them.

ExPat, yes it is nice to get some stock out. I gives you the feeling that everything's on 'Track' :!: :!: I have loads of points, I just can't find them, I do have a few, mostly, left hand points, but need right hand, (Typical) I think they are in a large wooden box back in South Australia. But not to worry, I'm back off to SA in about a Month.

Nice to have room for long trains without 'tail chasing'.

last time around I got some of these, sprayed them an off white/pale cream colour and used actual teak varnish with a brush to decent effect. only gave up as I couldn't get transfers to redo the lettering

Reckon I'll be able to run 11 or 12 coaches without to much trouble.

G'Day Aleopardstail. You may well be able to get them on E-Bay, that's where I got mine from. Just checked on E-Bay, none on there, you could try 'Fox transfers'.

G'Day Gents

My back has rebelled at the punishment I have been giving it lately, so I'm taking things easy for the moment, back to the Workbench, I have another J3 under construction, a Slaters Birdcage brakevan is also taking shape. Another job I wanted to get done is re-name my A2/3 Chamossaire, into 'Watling Street', which didn't take to long, but I forgot the bufferbeam number, it can wait.

Nicely done on the re-name, I have the same model and have wondered on changing it for something I can actually say at least half correctly some of the time

have found with gaming its good to have various things on the go, keeps it fresh and avoid "oh gods, more track laying" syndrome

Yes you are right, always good to have lots of things on the go.

"Watling Street" will certainly do justice to your new layout.

Particularly pleased to see the J3 "in the works" - is the splasher in the right foreground scratch-built from Plastikard, or cannibalised white metal from another kit or loco? (Or is it not a splasher?!)
