Hi all
I see Hornby do a 4 amp transformer that is a good upgrade for the Hornby Select DCC unit - alowing you to run more trains and accessories:
C7024 Hornby DCC 4 Amp Multi Purpose Transformer
I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative available from Maplins etc that anyone had found?
Thanks,
Matt.
Is there an alternative to the Hornby 4 AMP Transformer?

Re: Is there an alternative to the Hornby 4 AMP Transformer?
Hi,
There sure is an alternative...I have been using a Toshiba laptop power supply for ages with my Elite, Specs are 15volts 5 amps ...The current doesn't matter, it is a good regulated supply, here are a few links on ebay.

Either of these will do the trick. The link you supplied was for using a laptop on a plane or in a car.
Michael.

I'm been using a 'NEWSTAR' Model NSC-40 switching power supply. This accepts input AC 100-240v 50/60Hz. output is variable; at 15v its 4.5Amp. I've been using it with my Hornby DCC controller for 6mths with no problems. It was purchased in a local hardware store at a third of the price of Horby's 4Amp power supply.
