Whilst i have some time off i thought id start a smaller layout in my front room. Its going to be about 80" long, just a little goods yard with a small station at the back. Will post some pictures once its started of my progress, it may be on a small free hosting page

Anyway, i hope if i get stuck somewhere i can post on this thread and hopefully some of you could give me some assistance

Its in our box room upstairs. Well i say it'll be in there...Im going to create it on one and a half paste tables, take all the hinges off and use dowels to be able to slot and unslot. Hoepfully that way i can take it to a show or two once its done

Don't use paste tables. I did once, and the harboard is too thin, it warps and needs extra bracing. Seriously, don't use them!

What's a paste table?

A table that isn't very firm to the touch.

Either that or a very lightweight construction table usually used for laying out wallpaper roll so you can paste it ready for putting up on the wall.

I can't be sure which...

Ah yes theres one of those in our garage. Quite flimsy yes but I suppose you could do some DIY and strengthen it up a bit if it's easier than starting from scratch.

Well we decided to get the paste table, take all the brackets and such off and re-enforce the board underneath to stop it warping and to make it stronger.

I know that " = inches and '= feet. Just Ijdagger's remark made me wonder if he knew. Or it could be sarcasm, which is hard to detect on a forum.

Just finished sealing up the boards with 1 part pva and 4 parts water. Have placed three pieces of wood along each board to give it strength and then applied two coats on the tops and bottom of the boards to seal it up.

I will create a freewebs account later on today and hopefully get some pictures up
