Clifton 009 Layout

Postby Clifton009 » Sat Feb 02, 2008 4:09 pm

Well I have finally made the effort and started a layout thread!

My layout is 009 and will be in 2 sections, with the possibility to expand further at a later date.

Section 1 will have the following on it:
Loco depot (3 lines)
Carriage depot (2lines)
Station
Goods / permanent way yard (3 lines)
Small village
Tunnel
All the track is laid on this.

Section 1 is joined to section 2 by 2 tunnels to allow a continuous loop to be run. Section 1 has its own loop.

Section 2 will have the following on it:
Station with 2 sidings
Industrial area - probably a slate mine
Farm land
Raised track area.
The main line is laid & a passing loop.

Current Rolling Stock:
Roco RTR Steam Loco
Roco RTR Diesel Loco
4 Carriages
Various assorted goods wagons

I have built some buildings from kits:

I am currently building a tunnel, tunnel portals and re painting my scratch built loco shed.

More to follow!!

Wow! Clifton your layout looks great with just the track on it! Good job there mate!

The buildings look awesome, I especially like the engine shed and the house!

I'm guessing your using PECO points and track?

Can't wait for another update!

Thanks guys.

Yes the track is all Peco 009.

Will post pictures of the shed when its had its re paint!

Here's the progress on the tunnel, which is going to look like it's through a rocky area when finnished:

I used polystyrene, stuck paper on with PVA, then stuck small pieces of cork on to look like rocks. Sprayed it Sea Grey. I will paint on different shades of grey and add scatter, grass etc. Might need to re paint the tunnel portals I made as I don't think they match now!

So still a lot to do on it. I am making the top separate so it can be removed if there is a derailment etc. Run out of spray paint now! Used a full can on it!

Blimey Jason that tunnel looks excellent! :D Great work there!

Good idea about the removable section! Forward planning, I like it!

That reminds me of the welsh mountains and a coal mine!

Well done mate, its really spurred me on to get moving with my own layout, keep us updated I now really miss my 009 mostly for the sheer amount you can "cram in" to a limited space.

Yes, its a cattle creep. I raised the track up 2cm at this point. The idea is the industrial area will be at this height, there is a point for it just to the left of the cattle creep. So there will be a cutting up towards the "summit" behind the industrial area, then the track drops down at the right hand side probably through some hills.

Thanks for the other comments guys. I will try to have regular updates.

Blaqk I thought your 009 layout was lonely in the Personnal Layout section! Not sure I can keep a pace with your daily updates though!

Jason

Great layout: looks like lots of operating potential for the future.

What size are the boards ?

Thanks Andrew. Both boards are 68cm wide so they can be fit through the door without tipping them on their side! and 125cm long to ensure enough room for the loop and the length of the passing point required. This is bigger than my original plan of 68cm x 100cm, then 68 x 150cm, then I thought of 2 boards at 68cm x 125cm  I liked this final idea as I can create 2 very different scenes, but the trains can run through. I wanted to be able to run a mix of passenger and goods trains.
