G'Day Gents

A tunnelmouth has been built and joined together, single each side and a double in the middle, as the GN liked to do in the North London suburbs. With tunnelmouths, you have to have a reason for having one, so I'm building a hill, mostly 6 ply, and a bit of 3 ply for the garden of the semi detached house's that overlook the top of the tunnel.

The structure to your hill/tunnel looks substantial! A quick question/observation - is the hill going to be removable? Remember you may need to access the track to clean it, or to recover a derailed train.

Thank you for your replies.

Access to the hill will be from three points, a door will be cut on the left side of the hill, see Pic 2. On the right hand side of the hill next to the tunnelmouths, there is a 'Hole' this will also provide access to the Up lines, again see Pic 2. On the right hand side of the hill, where the tracks exit the hill, there is plenty of room to access the tracks under the hill, see Pic 3.

I've draped some 'Teddy bear fur' over the top of the tunnels to simulate long grass (when painted green), but I've since found out the ground above the tunnels is a Park, not waste ground as I thought, so shorter grass planted trees and footpaths are in order, you learn something every day.

Also painted the inside of the tunnels black.

Now a plea for help. Slightly to the right of the tunnels and above is a row of Semi Detached house, see pic below. I'll only have room for one pair, but does anyone have any idea of there size (width and depth) even of a average Semi (if you live in one) Mum and Dad did, but I never got the ruler out. Thanks in advance.

Semi detached house sizes would vary enormously depending on when/where they were built, local affluence, etc.

This link has various house types with plans (including semis) so you may be able to spot the style you remember in there.

The National Library of Scotland online maps may help

https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=1 ... orld&o=100

You can use the measure tool at the top right to get an idea of the actual size. Nrs 87-89 are about 41 ft by 23 ft

Be warned. It is a very addictive website...

Edited to add:

Also, the local planning website may be of use

https://publicregister.haringey.gov.uk/ ... et-3892f=3

Now I had better get back to actually doing what I am paid to be doing right now...

Thank you very much for those sites, I'm going to spend many happy hours going through them, as long as I remember why I'm there.

G'Day Gents

Sorry, not to have done any updates for a while, I've hardy sat at the modelling desk, for weeks, far to much work to do on the house, lots of paint stripping, and re-painting, wall replacement, some new stumps under the house, to stop it falling down, Etc.

I have been running some trains, but with virtually no fiddle yard and three running lines, it takes ages to marshal trains, as trying to find them in a myriad of boxes takes up a lot of time. I have been repairing a few locos and coaches, that have suffered minor damage, loose or missing couplings, oiling and cleaning. I'll be heading South in a couple of weeks, so house refurbishment has finished, I may well be able to get on with a few stalled projects.

One of the jobs I have managed to do, is build a couple of shelves, makes life a lot easier than going through boxes all the time.
