Wow, inspirationally good layout! Exactly the kind of atmosphere I’m striving to achieve in mine (don’t think I’ll be quite as successful). Love the little scenes like the parcel depot, really brings it to life, fun to model and fun to look at.

Millsend --- A layout that drags you back and places you well and truly into the 1960s. Love it

Thanks for the comments Johv8, Chops, Dursleydog and Glencairn.
Withdrawal symptoms, we can't have that.
Nothing has changed or been added to Millsend recently, but, I have been having
running sessions now the layout is finished and enjoyed it too.
The pigeon brake van I posted about has now been weathered and can be seen
amongst the parcels train in this recent video.
Hope it makes up for my absence.

Nothing wrong with running sessions. That's why a layout is built.railwayjim wrote: Nothing has changed or been added to Millsend recently, but, I have been having

The video certainly does justice, only thing that is missing is the scent of coal smoke. Beautifully shot, and as always
the bridge is a beautiful view.

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland
Well.........I have made the decision to dismantle 'Millsend'.
We are having to have work done in the utilities cupboard which means access is needed and
the layout is in the way. It also means access for the future must be left.
I have been thinking about it for some time and this has just made me realise I was not using
the layout very much at all. I have achieved more than I ever dreamt of when it was featured in Railway Modeller.
I think the enjoyment for me was in the making of the layout if I am honest, once finished it sort of lost its appeal somehow.
I have also decided to sell it all, lock stock and barrel and have a complete break. I still have a growing collection of Hornby Dublo 2 rail
to keep my railway interest and will probably build a display of some sort down in the basement which will keep me busy
for the foreseeable future, watch this space.....
I will still keep my eye on the forum which I have happily been a member of for quite some time and will continue to be.

Jim, this year is all getting as bad as Beeching - all my favourites disappearing.
Thanks for the enjoyment it's given me and, more particularly, all the best for any future venture - you know you really want to!!

OMG Ex Pat is right, it is the mid sixties all over again, curious that both of us were modelling that period too! So sorry to see Millsend go, it is such an atmospheric layout, I hope that you can find something to fill the void that will be left. Have to admit that I have done the square root of nothing modelling wise, still getting the main house into the way we (the wife that is) want's it!

What a travesty!!!
Millsend is not only an exceptional model railway but a work of art and it's truly sad to see it having to be dismantled. (don't show us those pics you'll break our hearts
)
You've truly been an inspiration to us all with Millsend Jim.
Please don't ever remove the layout thread. There's so many tips, techniques and wise words that I'm sure will benefit all, wether newcomer or seasoned modeller.
Thank you.

What can I say?
My favourite layout is going to be no more.
My favourite thread hopefully will survive.
Jim, please produce a few more of your excellent videos so we have a full picture of this excellent layout to look back on.
It feels like PETERSDALE'S bigger brother has just left home for good.
Sad news indeed.
Thanks for the inspiration you gave me and no doubt many others on the forum over the years.
A great layout duly recognized with it featuring in Railway Modeller.

Well that is sad news, what a wonderful layout. I trawled through this thread when I first joined, looking for inspiration as I was modelling the same era, I found plenty!

Very sad to see it go! Truly been an inspiration and literally one of my three favourite layouts ever!
A sad loss.
Thanks for sharing it and best of wishes for were ever your interests take you.
