The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.

That removed piece of Aqua Magic looks handy for something...
Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Will I have this ready for the release of "Ivor The Engine"
Although planned to be Scotland my thinking is that a Welsh Mountain is almost as good !!
Brought indoors for a while to escape the winter chill.

How can you stay sane with just one project on the go !!

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Rather than go down to my shed in the rain I decided to do more landscaping on this roundy, roundy.

I've run out of grass again. Tough as I can't find one trader that has BOTH available & in stock.
I don't want to pay double postage, so another stall ?

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Perhaps I should have look "In House" - Click on the "New Modellers Shop" logo
and here I found both Javis & Noch grass flock in stock at very fair prices and
reasonable mailing charges.
Dare I suggest people look there first !!
Hopefully by the end of this week I can race on with planting greenery !!

Reference my Grass !!
Ordered Monday
Delivered Tuesday.
Simon & Rebecca don't push their retail business and have left
the forum pretty much alone. My recent experience say's we should
use them a LOT MORE.

Now some of that grass laid.
It's so long since I did much in the way of big green areas that I've forgotten
just how I used to do it !!
In fact this small board should have been finished about a year ago, I can
hardly believe I started it in August 2023.
Small steps will get it done.

Because I probably over drench in watered down PVA I can only do small areas
at a time. So much PVA runs off and in many cases needs mopping up before
it stops draining off.
My usual over the top applications. This board is now unbelievably heavy, yet
it's only 33" x 34" built like the proverbially brick **** house. At least when it's
on a table it doesn't move about at the slightest knock.
More grass down tonight ???

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
That looks fantastic
I am girding myself for scenery once again, the club expert offered me a loan of his static applicator last night but I am not sure the other half will be pleased when it's stuck up the walls and across the ceiling, some lessons required I think

A fresh start in OO, DC Steam
Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Hi fourtytwo,
Thanks for the kind words, I just enjoy country scenery, perhaps why I was a keen
cyclist in my day. You smell, feel and hear your surroundings
I have an electro static set here, but have always done my grass by finger & thumb
sprinkling. I do layers and patches from between 4 & 7 different static grass flocks.
All very random, but with a basic idea of matching the various colours to the landscape
form.
Not much railway on this hopefully interesting terrain.

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Drifted off into my own little world again.
I always loved those little Dapol Pugs, most are good runners as well.
Mine has a decoder and gives very good slow speed running.

Lots of greenery to add around the small wooden halt, someone is
already preparing the ground !!

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
have found with a lot of models that struggle a bit at low speeds, adding a decoder works wonders
Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
In the previous photo, the grass in the foreground appears to have sprouted fluffy seed heads - very realistic!
I like the handrails on the pug. Does anyone still make pugs with separately fitted handrails?

A box of trees arrived.
I MUST get on with this !!

Perhaps more grass laying tonight. Trees to be put away pending lots of
landscape work..

Re: The North Circular - Austerity & Nostalgia.
Although I've been laying more greenery there is still a long way to go.
In the meantime I have running sessions.
This taken to show the depth and how narrow the cutting is.

How much fun & entertainment can you have from a 34" x 33" circle of track !!
