Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout
The assortment of huts, grounded vans etc for the maintenance/painters depot is now complete with the addition of two old Tri-ang huts R84/1 and R84/2 which I’ve had since way back when they first came out and along with the Hornby vans had to be used on my Shawhurst layout.

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout
I’ve added a few more people to the station, six train spotters in two groups (as a reminder of my train spotting days). Along with these I have five passengers on this platform and two on the other platform, and that I think is going to be all.

Ratio 529 concrete fence construction well under way along the front of the layout and a row of lights added to what will be a cinder path behind the fence leading to the signal box.

It really is coming together - it's the small details that make all the difference. The concrete wall looks very good - I've just added the same thing to the street side of my station. The trainspotters you added a little while ago - it makes such a difference. I must add some people to Wykeham. Keep up the good work - your giving me ideas - it's layouts like yours that inspire me.

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout
Thanks for your comments. The fence is nearly complete with 116 panels and associated posts so far and 26 panels still to add. Most have been constructed in strips of 8, with a couple of strips at the start having 9 panels and 2 with shorter strips.bulleidboy wrote: It really is coming together - it's the small details that make all the difference. Good progress Fratton.
Really got that 'Southern' look.

Thanks Pete, the Southern look has been my aim.RailwayRobbo wrote:Good progress Fratton.

Concrete fence along the front of the layout is now completed and what a tedious task this became in the end! To the front side I now need to add some tufts of grass and the occasional bush.

Fratton71D - Fantastic layout you've built there especially with the size restriction you had.
As mentioned before by other users, you have really nailed the 'Southern' look and feel for this layout.
I will say that a couple of elements on your layout has made it into my 'L' shape layout I'm currently designing.

Looking really good - how on earth do you keep things so neat, tidy and organised - makes my loft look like the proverbial tip!!

I agree with Jim. I bet it takes a lot of effort!
My railway room was recently decorated and I have started again making a layout again, it is well organised as a modelling workshop, but still currently looks like a building site! Although not a direct comparison (nearly complete vs just starting out), hats off to a really neat/tidy/organised room/modeller!
{I must have a serious tidy up!}

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout
Thanks for your comments regarding keeping clean and tidy. I think a career in the Aerospace industry where everything is organised and structured has helped, plus I need to keep things tidy as I don’t have that much space to work and move around in.
Not much progress at all over recent weeks due to decorating and gardening at home, you have to keep the missus happy!

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout
Thanks for your comments. I still have a fair amount of work to do, however recently I've been spending some time getting some more of my locos out of their boxes and fitting couplings, vacuum pipes, steps, brake gear etc. and oiling them ready for use. I now have the following ready:
Terriers 32640, 32661 and 32678 (32635, 32636 and 32670 still boxed)
M7 30051 and 30254 (30108 and 30479 still boxed)
T9 30313 and SR 708 (30310 and 30724 still boxed)
700 30316 and SR 325 (30316 and 30693 still boxed)
O2 30182 and 30225
N 31401 (31843, 31844 and 31862 still boxed)
Q1 33006 (33009 and 33020 still boxed)
WC 34026 and 34041 (34078 and 34091 still boxed)
S15 30830
N15 30800 (30450 and 30777 still boxed)
0415 Adams radial 4-4-2T 30582 and 30584
WR Locos
0-6-0’s 2217 and 2277
2-6-0 4377
0-6-0PT 4680 (4666 still boxed)
Ivatt 2-6-2 41310
Fitting the brake gear to some of these has been a real pain especially to the S15’s bogie tender!
I never intended to purchase the Adams radial locos, however these were (and still are) on offer at a price I couldn’t refuse.
