I well remember struggling and sweating for ages trying to undo some wheel nuts until someone pointed out that I had to turn them clockwise. I had never heard of reverse thread (or left-hand) nuts. :x
Yes. For certain applications where a standard thread would be prone to undo-ing. Examples are the pedal threads on bicycles where the left hand pedal has a reversed thread, as do the bottom bracket bearing cups on the right hand side of the bottom bracket. The design is such that if they are lose, they are unlikely to come off. Sometimes reversed threads are used where threads would natrually over-tighten in certain applications if they were standard direction thread.

No. That would be beyond my capabilities.

The one or ones I have had were 0-4-0's. Why I ask. They did seem to have a long rear overhang where the motor is.

Yes it does appear so. I bought it as such, at a cheap price I could not refuse. :D Something a little different to my other locomotives.

I bought 'Percy' (Thomas the Tank range) for the grandchildren, but was hardly run. A quick alteration, repaint, new nameplate and it is now part of Kirkstall & East Seacroft Railway's fleet of locos. It is now Zephyrus.

Now 'Thomas' has been languishing in the drawer too long.
Removal of the face was easy.

Now in the workshops for a tidy up and repaint.
Awaiting nameplates

Thomas no more. Repainted in Regal Blue and 'earning its keep'. Awaiting a new name, not sure what?

Tommie, being gender neutral, would be more appropriate in these modern times. :|

Thank you for the suggestions, Gentlemen, but with other locomotives to name the following nameplates to buy ---

Lady Elizabeth
Lady Margaret
Lady Amelia
Lady Julia

Which locomotive receives what is the order of the day.
