Re: Red House Goods Yard
OK, some pictures
Quite a bit done since i last updated (quite a bit for me anyway)
Done the platforms but have had another change of heart and am getting round to redoing them
The first board with the platforms on is fairly close to completion. I am redoing the platforms by sticking paving slabs for the edges and then a fine ballast for the tops (as can be seen tested in one of the pictures)
The middle board shows the pointwork and in the background will be a low relief ASDA when i can find some white corrugated card somewhere locally (a nightmare to find for some reason, plenty of coloured stuff about)
The third board shows the road over bridge for the end of the layout with working streelights. Also, in the background there is the start of a raised area which will contain 2 low relief plaster factory fronts. The ramp at the front of the board will lead down into what will eventually become a bus station
I cant actually load the pictures up which it now tells me after writing this, but i will try again in a day or two and all this will become a little clearer

Re: Red House Goods Yard
The picture above is the shot of two sidings set just down the line from the station. Obviously the pva sticking the scatter grass hasnt dried yet, hence the fact that it looks like a few patches of glue
Once thats sorted ill be ballasting the track around that area so it should look better
Will try and get the rest of the pics up

Re: Still Yet To Be Named Layout
This is a side view between my 2nd and 3rd board. The building on the left is awaiting some white corrugated card and will be labelled up as an ASDA. The platelayers hut in the foregroung will have a mud track leading up to it eventually
This is a view of my 2nd board connecting with the 1st board containing the platforms. The platforms themselves are in the process of redevelopment as i didnt like the way i first did it. The track in this section has been weathered with sleeper grime but is awaiting ballast. Also note that the two boards aren't pushed together and the gap in between isnt permanent!
Another shot of the undeveloped platforms. The plain brown stretch is the base for a muddy/grassy area as seen in the previous picture but i have run out of fine ballast so it will have to wait. Ditto between the two main tracks
A view of the bridge at the end of the layout. The small grey post in the foreground did have a BR symbol on it but i have taken it down with the intention of replacing it with a better quality one. The gap between the far stairs and the wall will be filled with mesh to make it look as though the wall has come away and it has been given a temporary fix. A bit more detailing will be going on there like an information board and some people
This is a view from the bridge at the other end of the layout. Unfortuanately ive had one or two mishaps with some adhesive which has stained the road. Im hoping to find a way to disguise it as a whethered effect. Also note the white patches in the grassy bits on the track are just undried pva and should be dry by the morning
A low shot of the layout
A shot from above
A rather messy looking attempt at grass under the buffers. Again, the pva hasnt dried yet and the picture was taken just minutes after application. Hopefully it will set clear and wont be noticeable. Also, scraps of grey ballast from an early attempt at ballasting. This was taken up and not properly cleaned away!
A final shot of the working lamps on the road at the end of one of the boards. There will be working lamps along the shopfronts and double headed ones on the platform

Re: Still Yet To Be Named Layout
Theres quite a lot of imperfections around the layout and i cant say everything has been down with careful planning beforehand. Because its my first attempt at a layout ive learnt a hell of a lot from doing it and i think once its finished i will be proud of what ive done

Thank you very muchboyofbears wrote:this layout is looking really good!
Ive decided to call my station Pincherswood. I liked the sound of 'wood' as a suffix and for the prefix i combined my own name with the initials of my favourite football team, fairly simple

Re: Pincherswood - Modern 00 Layout
Great job there The station bridge is really well made and the overgrown tracks look nice and neglected. Top job

The use of the two levels looks fantastic. Word of advice.. perhaps a BR sky sign like the one off Valkova Road from Ten Commandments. (Top picture)

I bought a few packs of their detailing signs such as the BR sign i mentioned and some timetables etc
Theyve got some really good stuff and once my ballastings done ill be looking to add stuff like that to give it some life

Re: Pincherswood - Modern 00 Layout - Pics Page 5
Im thinking of redoing one section of the layout
In the 'shot from above' picture you can see the grey painted area towards the edge of the board. That was initially going to be a bus station but i cant quite get the platforms right, im not happy with the ramp ive done and the fence ive used is beyond flimsy (perhaps an excuse for the fact that ive clumsily knocked it on several occasions and im losing patience with it)
Im considering turning it into a small disused loco/wagon yard and wondered if anyone had any tips or suggestions
Id replace one of the short pieces of track on the mainline with a point (which would not be motorised or moved out of position because of the fact that the yard would be disused) and id have a few sidings which would be rusted over with a few weeds. I might put one of the hornby/peco loco sheds in and weather it up to make it look run down and have a scrap wagon or two
Im wanting to know if people think this might be a good idea and would it compliment the rest of the layout?

Trying to negotiate a deal for a couple of scrap points and a second hand hornby maintenance shed to use for the old siding.
Im going to paint the track with sleeper grime (on top of the rails too) and probably use some rusty coloured weathering powder lightly
For the ballast ive noticed on real life disused sidings that it doesnt sit as high as it does on the main lines and that its quite shallow so what i thought i might do is before laying the track, pva the underlay, place the track on to it, add a few track pins then scatter some ballast between and around the sleepers. This way it does get a layer of the ballast but you might be able to see slight bits of mud underneath

Got my points ordered and am looking to get some lineside equipment boxes from the local shop today or tomorrow
Still looking for the maintenance shed but its not something that'll stop me doing anything
Going to crack on with the ballasting asap and then it should start looking something like a nearly finished layout....doesnt feel like its going to be as simple as that though
