Yes. I agree! Shame they never made them lower quadrant. Also Crescent signals took the HD signals one step further! Lovely things!fourtytwo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 3:37 pmI still use the semaphore signals because they are solid enough being diecast to motorize (with a servo) unlike the flimsy plastic Ratio etc ones.Mountain wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 10:57 am I love the HD crossing gates and I wonder if it is possible to make a correctly spaced double track version out of a few of them as that would be cool, as out of all the level crossings I saw in model form, these are the best and most solid crossing gates one can find on the market.

Hello all
Crescent Toys made both Upper and Lower Quadrant Signals.

Re: New / Old - Little Weldon
I have never seen lower quadrant examples. Actually... Think all mine are upper, though not 100% sure... Have one ot two like those and a gantry version somewhere. Uhmmm. Crescent signals are nice!

Hello all
As Mountain has said Crescent Toy's Signals are nice a bit on the chunky side, but they work well for me. They add an extra dynamic to my layout and compliment the Dublo and Wardie Master Model ranges. I have yet to add any of the illuminated Trix signals to the Weldon's. Both of my Crescent Gantry signals are Lower Quadrant I shall have to see if I can find an Upper one, if they exist .

Re: New / Old - Little Weldon
now the illumination adds a very nice touch, where more functional illuminated "out of the box" semaphore signals are not available is beyond me
nice how the light isn't blinding too

Re: New / Old - Little Weldon
It MIGHT JUST be possible to drill out the spectacles and fit a bi-color smd led in front of the lamp housing on the diecast signals! But I think you would have to be fairly desperate.........
A fresh start in OO, DC Steam

Hello all
Well fourtytwo I certainly won't be drilling out the spectacles on Signal Arms, I shall leave that for somebody else to do. The quest for an Upper Quadrant Signal Gantry is drawing a big blank at the moment. However I do have amongst my stash two Playcraft Signal kits which I believe can be combined to make a Gantry so maybe that is the way forward.

Hello all
Last night I finished constructing my very first Kitmaster kit. This particular kit was part of a Nabisco (Shredded Wheat) promotion and was actually issued by Airfix in 1963 during the early part of the takeover although the mouldings still carry the Kitmaster logo. The model is unpowered but free rolling, I am now looking for the Kitmaster powered wagon so that I can propel the Shunter. What you can't see in the photo's is the fully painted and glazed Cab.

Hello all
As part of Little Weldon's Rail 200 celebrations a special guest has made an appearance. This particular model is an early Airfix pressing from the Kitmaster moulds. It is purely a stationary model. It wasn't until I looked at the photos that I realised it is in front of the Liverpool Cables Wagons, quite fitting I thought. One of those little coincidences.

Absolutely charming and most unique. Is the three rail DC type?
Nessie rocks!

The charm is precisely in the chunk. Rubenesque, my dear fellow.Dublo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 8:01 am Hello all

Hello all
In answer to your question Chops, yes Hornby Dublo is DC.
Not a great deal is happening on the layout at the moment. So I have been contenting my modelling urge with kit building. After all these years I have finally learnt how to make / paint kits whilst sitting in my Armchair in front of the Telly. I found that I'm not watching so much utter rubbish now either so that's a bonus as well. Not all of these have been railway related either currently on the go HMS Victory and an illuminated Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Well, at least you're doing something! I have a bad habit of thinking about doing something and then not doing it. HMS Victory would be amazing if you could work it into Little Weldon as a museum ship in the harbor, like the Cutty Sark or something. A Star Trek ship would be a grand photo bomb. Speaking of space, I am praying and hoping that the stranded American astronauts return safely after ten months of being marooned. Would enjoy seeing the end result of your handiwork, in any event.
Inspired by LW when I was last active on this Forum, I had the opportunity to obtain a Hornby 3 Rail DC oval, a locomotive, and two coaches. I set it up for a Christmas Display, but it sparked and sent out an ominous plume of gray smoke. If you want it, I'd be happy to give it to you gratis for the mere pleasure of knowing it might find some resurrection. It comes with a metal station and a Hornby vintage tunnel, in addition to the track, but the problem is that shipping would be costly, probably more than the set's worth. That being said, if you have the ability to afford the shipping, it's yours for the asking.

HMS Victory...
My girlfriend and I built that at her parents' house on a folding tray table while sitting on the sofa. We had to pack all the bits away every time I went home so that nobody would sit on them. We've been married fifty years now, so that must have been around 1972 or 1973.

Hello all
Chops its a shame that all your engine gave you was grey smoke and not hours of endless pleasure. Hearing and smelling that wonderful 1950's technology. Is there no one near you that could offer a repair service. Thankyou very much for your very kind offer, but I'm afraid I shall have to say no thankyou. As you say the shipping costs from the US to the UK are truly horrendous. It's bad enough sending stuff around the UK at the moment let alone abroad.
Regarding HMS Victory nice as it would be to Moor her in Weldon Dock she is completely the wrong scale at 1/180 and also a very large vessel. She will be in the Railway Room but on a shelf. Phred I am also building this on a folding tray table with a sheet of glass covering the surface. This is a model I've always wanted to make since I was a child. I was and still am fascinated by the Rigging, I hope I can do it justice.
DS9 along with the Enterprise when built will both hang from the Ceiling in the Railway Room.
