Relatively easy to find the most common of the range s/h in the UK, due to the well known SABLE tendency among hobbyists in many interest groups.

I sold a few unused kits back in the 1970s, when the much more useful plastic and whitemetal kits designed for (or readily taking) pinpoint axles in brass bearing inserts from the likes of Ratio, 3H, Slaters, ABS, transformed wagon kit building in 4mm. These completely outclassed Peco WW because they offered a much wider choice of essential wagon types which Peco had neglected, covering all of pre-group and big four company designs, the BR replacements, and RCH design wagons used by both the railway companies and the Private Owners; and - further benefits - yielded a far more free rolling result, with simpler couple mounting.

The answer depends on the coupling you choose. Bottom line is that the metal casting of the Peco item is a good mounting point, but typically the bufferbeam mouldings either have to go or be extensively modified to make best use of this, and ideally the coupler mounting is arranged before the wagon body is assembled.

Hello all
I've been looking back over the last few posts and Mountain opened one of his response's regarding my growing kit collection with "Your layout is complete which is why you are naturally finding new avenues".
I hadn't actually thought about that before, and I think yes Little Weldon maybe considered to be complete. But I don't think it is finished there are still a number of items on the to do list, some of which have been put off for a number of years. For example there is only five children amongst the population and far to many Railway Porters. Also there are no Train Spotters for a layout that is meant to be set around 1959 that seems to be a rather glaring omission. I need to paint a couple of Teddyboys and Girls that I have in the to do Box.
The list of items that could be added to the layout could go on indefinitely. I guess that these things could be addressed as detailing.

The Summer of '59, I remember it well.
Although I do recall it being in full colour. I could down 2 jam
doughnuts at morning coffee break.

Thanks for taking me back to a time when I had no responsibility,
no money, but endless energy - perhaps that was the doughnuts !!

I remember one old lineman who was sulking over his salad lunch, ordered by the doctor to reduce his belly fat a bit.
Waving his fork at some young 'lineys' slouching nearby, he said: 'Look at them! They live on pies, chips and beer yet they're fit as a drover's dog!'
Youth is a great tonic.

Hello all
Seven years ago I started making the Baseboards for Little Weldon. Little did I know how it would evolve over that time, there was no real plan other than to run Hornby Dublo through some scenery. As the layout developed so did my interest in contemporary accessories from other manufacturers. These I feel have helped to create a much more balanced picture. I know there are a few anomalies but I feel they only enhance the Meccano product's. Weldon Castle being one of the most major, but that seemed to take on a life of its own particularly after a visit to Corfe Castle. Gracing the pages of the Railway Modeller was a definate "high" as well.

I love the HD crossing gates and I wonder if it is possible to make a correctly spaced double track version out of a few of them as that would be cool, as out of all the level crossings I saw in model form, these are the best and most solid crossing gates one can find on the market. 3 rail users do need the correct piece of track, which in theory "Should" come with the crossing but rarely does. The correct piece of track means one can drive little cars over them and they hardly feel the bumps! They really are well made. Just why they never made a double track version puzzles me! The only real thing I was never able to get that I really wanted was a turntable. Every dealer that had one had one right at the time when I had no money to buy the thing, and when I had the money no one had one! This went on for 20+ years before I gave up trying to get one. The number of dealers that said "We just sold one of those" when I asked... Got so fed up trying to get one that when later in life I did see one I let it pass! :D

I still use the semaphore signals because they are solid enough being diecast to motorize (with a servo) unlike the flimsy plastic Ratio etc ones.

have some of the semaphore stuff here, slightly more recent Hornby stuff, essentially because it is way more robust than the Ratio kits which while I have made one I'm not that impressed by. the Hornby ones, apart from looking like they are for O gauge, are pretty decent
