In my experience not nearly as often. It was my parents generation who used tea for everything. One pair of in-laws couldn't start any activity without making and slowly consuming a pot of tea. They were always late for everything, as they never factored in the tea time. I remember one time when the action went something like this. I'll not say who's Mom and Dad they were.
Dad - Better get the car out to go to xxxx
Mom - I'll just make a cup of tea.
Half hour later Dad goes to garage, Get's out car and drives round to the front of house.
Dad (coming in through back door) - Car's ready
Mom - I'm just putting the kettle on.
Half an hour later they get in the car..........
I've noticed others among my own age group who drink neither tea nor coffee, some it's a reaction to their parents addiction, others just never drank them as a child and have never tried either.
