St.Oval - A scenic Set Track Oval
Re: St.Oval - A scenic Set Track Oval
Lysander,
I have a problem, I like cake !! The dear lady said once if you want cake that much try making
your own. So now in the oven is a Chocolate Brownie and an Apricot & Sultana tray bakes. Must
keep my ears open for the timer, this is where I could so easily go wrong, job done & forget !!
Those Blue Circle vans are Dapol ex-gunpowder vans, they do the job just fine, even at that speed
you have difficulty noting the 10 ft wheelbase. I'm no purist, the difference barely reduces my
enjoyment by 1%
That's just under half a circuits length, I'd not run that train for several years and it needed a run.
I noted the decoder was fitted to that loco in 2012 ....... where have the last 7 years gone ?

Things do get a little tricky when your loco laps the Guard's Van!

O.K Guys, No overlapping, but this one is even longer and in reverse.
Put the last of 2 coats of Klear over the Lowfits paint before lunch ready for decalling later.
Then after lunch cut my grass, but the mower is stored under St Oval and I just couldn't
ignore a final testing session.

Hi Lysander,
He, He, I'm of Yorkshire parentage, also spent 22 years in the tyre trade
and use what charm I have left to cadge for free strips from ATS of auto
sizes that come in alternate strips of 10 & 5 Grams. While ideal for vans
I prefer to insert cut pieces of sheet lead into chassis voids of unloaded
opens.
Decals on my Lowfits, but final paint touch-ups and weathering needed,
but out today.

Re: St.Oval - A scenic Set Track Oval
I was tidying up my recent additions and allocating spaces in various stock boxes.
I needed a re-check on box 16 and today decided to do a run before they're taken
back into the loft.
The little J94 pulled without and signs of distress other than some gear noise that
was there when bought. In fact it's beginning to quieten down, I hope being run-in
rather than worn-out !!
https://youtu.be/PRSOROoKeo4
I ran this set backwards as well, but a few of these wagons have non-synchronized
couplings - yes a few with slightly sagging Dapol couplings that I'd not "Fixed" that
after two laps were beginning to ride over one another, so I stopped before derailments.

Congrats. It's a wonderful layout. Can I borrow a few ideas ? Thanks.

Re: St.Oval - A scenic Set Track Oval
Brilliant how you worked that bridge in. I have one laying about and have had not a clue what to do with it. I may try to imitate what you didDad-1 wrote:Trees, and even more trees ........
This layout seems to eat trees. I also need to get trees growing from a steep rock face at the gorge.
I've tried cutting the plastic stem of Woodland Scenics trees at 45-60 degrees. Then drill into the trunk
so it'll accept some fence wire I have here. I can then bend that to fit into holes drilled in the steep ravine.
A rough idea of where I'm going :-
I might even cut some branches away ?
I know roughly what I want, but exactly how to get there is still a mystery. All I know is I'll be lucky
to get away with less than another £50 worth !!

here, given a dollop of luck.

Should I, or shouldn't I include another Video of trains running on St Oval.
Well the first thing I've noticed is Chops reply back in June !!
You may notice many trees no longer there !! they plug in and were removed to be placed on
Castell Mawr my big layout for the club's exhibition at the end of July, and still not returned
to St Oval.
So that's a job I'll need to do on top of several other part completed projects. I'm hoping this
small video will give me some impetus to get on, although feeling lazy is no sin !!
