It looks like you're managing some fun! It's a shame to see how quiet the forum is these days, I notice on lack of responses. The hobby seemed to take of with covid and lockdowns yet no heavy internet traffic it seems.

Yup, christmas comming is definetely a good excuse to buy yourself a gift haha. I did the same on a Hornby J15 and some track for our current project.

I don't know that we will every see off the shelf wagons with damaged panels and bulging from coal loads but some pressings with a soldering iron from the inside makes a nice effect.

Cheers, Josh

I doubt Covid is to blame, social media has taken over forums for most, many of the groups I am in on FB are bigger than the forum has ever been!

Ahuge number now "post" as video's on Youtube, I feel the day of 'forum threads' is over!

Or is it old age? Younger people do YouTube perhaps.

I drop in and look more than I contribute. Haven't been doing much on the railway at present, as here in WestOz the weather has been mild and other stuff is happening. I retreat to the railway shed when it is raining or too hot.

I think it varies. I keep meaning to place more of my surplus items for sale, but also I have quite a lot of sorting to do before modelling work commences again as I have a new shed to refurbish and renovate which does not need much work but some work, and it is currently jam packed with old bicycles and parts as my brother and I have swapped shed space so my things are in this shed and his things are now in the barn.
I do have too much stuff so I am going to have some more sorting to do which involves letting go of those bicycle projects I will probably never do and only keeping a few in the hope I will be able to set my mind that way in future years because though all through my working life apart from almost a decade on the railways I have worked on bicycles, but since the last couple of burnouts/breakdowns, somehow as they happened while working on bicycles, somehow I am finding I am mentally prone to having shutdown issues as somehow my mind can't cope with it.... And yet it is a trade I know back to front with my eyes closed.
I could in theory walk straight into a job in this trade now as I am thought of highly from those who know me, but mentally I will crash if I attempt to do so.... And I have found that even working at home with bicycles I am vunerable. Bikes that would have taken me an hour or two to do now take me many months of little bits of the bike so I don't mentally crash.
So these bicycle projects are now in the way and I have a small shed full of them which I want to dedicate to trains.
In the past to reduce what I have I had done bikes up and given them away but they get abused through lack of use and left in a state and the ones I gave away and brought back thinking they are blessing me. I seem to be the dumping ground for old bicycles because I like bicycles, so I do need to say "No". I was saying no but then others say "Yes. He would like them" for me!
What a dilemma! :D
So that is my next project. Once I can get the shed half emptied I will have space. The shed needs a paint inside and outside and any metal sheets that are past it need to be replaced. (Not many from the look of it as they are visibly rusty but nothing seems to be too bad).
I then need to talk to my other brother very nicely to get the electricity restored. That is his expertise. We will get there!
Then I will be able to work on trains again and hopefully run them!

So though it seems the forums are quiet at present, it is very likely that some of us have things to do first before we will start posting again so we will be enjoying other peoples posts before we are ready to begin posting again with our own threads.

Hmmm, I think my covid comment was misinterpreted, I wasn't blaming covid for no people on the forum, I was saying the hobby seemed to have a resurgence with people in lockdown due to covid looking for something to do and was surprised that the forum was so quiet considering.
But yes perhaps youre right, social media has become the new outlet. For one I cannot be bothered with facebook so I wouldn't know.

And as captrees and mountain said, more just reading than contributing and basically life gets in the way. Not that Im any better myself, if youre not actively modelling then I guess theres not much to share.

I suppose I just feel a bit for the guys who share their modelling but get little or no feedback. The forums are obviously a community of like minded folk but there becomes little point sharing with that community if no one communicates. So even though Im not actively railway modelling ( but have some news coming) I try jump on periodically to see what friends are doing and make some comments. As most of you do to.

My initial comments came from noticing railwayrobbo had posted a number of posts with no responses and to be honest whether it bothers him or not just thought it a little sad. A couple of years ago there would have been a plethora of comments.

Cheers,
Josh

Sometimes life throws up many challenges. I know I look in most days and where I used to comment, I now am often been distracted.
What I see of railwayrobbo's work is very interesting and hope he continues to post.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all on NRM. Will 2022 be an improvement on 2021? We're all hoping so aren't we?
Well my burst of enthusiasm got off to a good start with my annual shed clear out but then got punctured with phrases like, could you?, can you?, will you?. Then of course we had the Christmas/New Year holiday and it's aftermath. Getting back to normal now. The one thing I did do was cancel my order for the Hornby 2-6-0 BR standard from TMC. I couldn't justify spending £220 on it when I've already got 4 Ivatts and numerous BR standard tender engines in my collection already.
Petersdale's population still needs painting and the missing tree's need planting so there's plenty to do to finish off.
The mice seen to have vacated the layout shed. The homemade bait boxes have been untouched since the first mouse invasion and there's no evidence of any further scenic damage on the layout. Additional boxes have been baited up so I can only keep my fingers crossed they dont return..
I'll put a brief description on my 'Robinson Road' thread as well.

The yard at PETERSDALE looks busy but there's not a loco to be seen. I guess there must be an ASLEF drivers strike.

Hi guys. I'm still here. Not much progress on either layout since last time I'm afraid.
I got the CMX track cleaner and the Heljan DPU out over the weekend (pictures below).
I've had mine for a few years now and just out of interest I've just looked up the current price of one on ebay.

£200.47p for the HO/OO version.
A sign of the times we're in is that the seller is offering instalment payments over 24 months.
Just took another look at the advert for the CMX again.
The seller is based in Scottsdale Arizona and the P & P is £55.19p LOL.
DIGITRAINS are £195 but out of stock.
Quite a few listed on ebay but the majority seem to be in the USA.

I've just checked the price of the Dapol DCC track cleaner. Under £100.
Perhaps people are buying that instead of the more expensive CMX cleaner.

I like the amount of greenery in the pictures. The mixed depths, colours and textures.
And the "lots of rolling stock" picture. :D
Thanks

Thanks for that End2End. When I first started planning PETERSDALE I wated a railway within the scenery so to speak. I actually did the scenery very randomly, doing bits at a time adding to and sometimes changing bits here and there.
The 'lots of rolling stock' picture was the result of a running session then dragging everything out of the fiddle yard so they could be put away easily..

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks to busy Admin for getting logged back and I trust all is well.

Secondly, the reason for this post (and it may be too late) is due to the sad passing of Pete, the owner, Petersdale is for sale at an insanely cheap price! I'm prepared to go back and buy it but... it is too big and I would need to compromise on what I want and importantly on preserving Petersdale as much as possible.

So, if anyone or their clubs can use it, please make contact via FB, I hope it's OK to post the link...?

https://www.facebook.com/share/161KobFAVe/

I can offer a technical drawing to help folks understand the make up of this fantastic layout and how it might be deconstructed for transportation. Please ask...

A word of caution, since I went to see Petersdake on 25th Jan, I have, despite asking via FB, had no further response from the family member/friend who is selling.
Best regards,
Andy
