Re: Goatbridge, N.Yorks- Ballasting boredom...

I just checked out the Battlegroup North website, looks like a lot of fun! Will be a great sight and sound to see all the aircraft moving or even just powered up. Are they going to be doing any Cold War-style fast scramble re-enactments with the Victor then? :D

Have a great hols!

Cheers,

Jimmy

I believe the runs went well Jimmy, and Lindy was quite quick off the mark! Youtube has videos of all the jet's runs I believe.
Well I'm back after a cracking week in Malta, I can thoroughly recommend it. We'll be off back!
While I was away some goodies arrived from DonB, including a Beer wagon body. On Sunday after catching up on sleep I dug out a chassis kit and, after making some new doors, created possibly the scruffiest item of PO rolling stock ever!

Normal service to the good people of Goatbridge will resume at the weekend. Beginning with a damn good track clean!

It was a nice easy little build, a nice post holiday non-taxing task. Chucking the door rails in made it much easier, all I had to do was make the doors from plastic card. Cheers Don! 8)

Didn't get chance to do as much as I'd hoped this week, but I got a bit done. I continued building the wall separating the station and its car parks from the road outside, even remembering to add a bus stop.
Image
All was well, until some idiot driver found out the hard way his E-Type was quicker than his brain!
Image
And had some explaining to do...
Image
Something I did a bit ago but forgot to show, a chap is repairing the damaged platform edge with his trusty pick, some new slabs and a sack of Blue Circle cement
Image
I got my stationary boiler done and ready to site too. It started as a built Dapol Prairie sourced through this forum. Seen here as a work in progress. Rods off, weathering begun and added to an old bit of track with timbers chocking it and a bunker for coal
Image
And now waiting to be sited next to the carriage sidings so the good people of Goatbridge have nice warm carriages on a morning!

In other news, the nearby RAF airfield is missing this pilot...

Last seen in the company of a deserter! :D

Had a very busy weekend, so not a lot got done on the railway. One thing I did manage to do was site the stationary boiler
Image
Oh, and I restored Flying Scotsman quicker than the NRM!
Here she is as arrived, a poor runner and with her black paint looking trowelled on in places. Still, for the money I can't grumble.
Image
Much sanding back, repainting, adding of 'coal', servicing and rewiring later here she is!
Image
And on her first working.
Image

Image
I just need to change the tender drawbar and she'll be 100%. I very much like the wartime black with smoke deflectors look.

Cheers chaps! :) Jas I do now have a reasonable number of locos stabled at Goatbridge shed. Most of the diesels have made their way into the drawer for now though, as the layout is going through a 'kettle' phase... And as to the pub, you could be on to something there...

Don, I bet that the outcome was Leopard 1, wall 0... !

Not really had chance to do much with the layout this weekend, however the Scotsman is now running very nicely after fitting the replacement tender drawbar which arrived from Peter's Spares.
I've also had a batch of OO people arrive, so there'll be a population explosion in Goatbridge soon! :o

Another weekend with little time to do much railway related stuff. However I did snatch enough time to weather some of the cars up. As in real life everyone's cars are not exactly immaculate, I thought I'd start working through the vehicles of Goatbridge. first up, one of the Cortinas, the Imp and one of the Landies.
Image
Note the clear bit for the Landy's one wiper!
Image
Cortina with standard Ford tinworm, mud and replacement wing
Image
Imp just muckied up a bit
Image
I need a full free day to get on properly again with the build, really...

Some more pics from the running session the other day
Image

Image
And some incredibly cheap acquisitions from a car boot sale on Saturday. 2x EYMS and 1xNorthern bus,
Image
A BMC van
Image
And a VW Beetle with caravan
Image
Also the shandy train! R Whites lemonade and Watney's beer wagons
Image
Goatbridge also has another relic from the war, something the opposition kindly left behind
Image
Which has also found its way to the local scrapyard. Surprised the local preservationists haven't spotted it yet...
Image
...because Bert's already noticed it!

If anyone is wondering as to Grahams lack of presence it us due to him currently being sans internet. Problems with connecting and the death of one laptop led to this.
He is hoping to be back online after the weekend.

Several weekends later... I'm back! :D Internet dongle thingy died, followed by my laptop, the replacement laptop then 'failed to proceed', but it's all good now. I hope...!

Normal service will resume soon.

My laptop is still dying but lives on, I had a problem with the dongle I have....I sort of put it down in a cup of sprite and didn't notice for a while, however the rice trick means it lives again, look forward to seeing more of the layout now :D

So we're back up and running, so what's changed around Goatbridge?
Not a lot.
A few weeks ago the local fire service acquired a reasonably-priced fire engine (Monk Bar Models in York has a few on cheap if you're passing)
Image
And yesterday in town I acquired some spotters
Image

Image

Image
And enough crew to populate most of the steam fleet
Image

Image
Sorry, but the weather's just too nice to be stuck indoors railwaying!
And to be fair, taking on another jet to restore to running order hasn't helped. Hey ho...
