Another week where little was done with the layout unfortunately, due to the commencement of a massive group build for a modelling forum. However there was some work done on the locos. The BoB 'Spitfire' has had a bit of work done on its valve gear but still requires some more, and the recently acquired Airfix Fowler has lost its LMS markings in preparation for an ID change into BR colours. The Mongrel Scot is in the process of having a new shorted tender drawbar made, as the fireman doesn't seem keen on leaping over the scale equivalent of a 5ft gap with shovelfuls of coal!
I really must get on with some landscaping, and make use of the rather nice drystone walls Jas sent me...

Got a bit done this weekend for once. Which pleased Bert ;)
Firstly the new Fowler's tender has a bufferbeam now
Image
And after buying a wreck of a chassis for spares off ebay I now have both jinties running again!
Image
They and the Prairie now have a load of Jas' special coal each. Cheers mate!
Image
The Mongrel Scot has now had its tender painted correctly. Although it looks mismatched in the picture it is spot on
Image
...so I sent it for a thrash around the layout
Image

Image
The Fowler then took a mixed freight, including my new Wrenn 6 wheeler Guinness tanker
Image
The Jinties then took over and double headed the freight onwards
Image
This morning I got a little bit of ballasting done on the front corner where I added the points a couple of weeks ago
Image
And the PW crew have tidied up where the old track was
Image
Been experimenting with some fluffier grass for the dead area between tracks too
Image
Think it looks a bit good!
Last shot for this week. Remember to watch out, Bert's about!

That paint job you did on the tender looks quite smart, my paint jobs seem to show my brush strokes quite a lot, but I don't think even if I had the money for an airbrush I would actually be any better at doing paintjobs than I am with a brush. Glad to hear that the jinty's are both up and running, much jealous of your Guinness tanker as they always seem to go for megamoney whenever I am bidding on one of that well known auction site.

Is that bert on the jinty's footplate in the third picture?? I've preordered myself an LBSCR E4 (goodness me a new locomotive?) but its going to cost me like 100 euros so I've just agreed to sell a retro games shop some of my old Gameboy stuff for 57 euros (if its all fine and dandy when it reaches them in the post all the way up in Dublin) and so I'll be half way there, but I have also managed to aquire (in the post it be) a Triang 3MT bodyshell on a Bachmann chassis, which apparently needs a service or possibly more to get it to run, but for a tenner I couldn't resist :P

Glad to see things are going well even if you don't get lots of time for modelling, the new grass looks nice :P

Alex

All my painting is done using 'hairy sticks' mate! The trick is to make sure the paint is well stirred and your brushes are in decent condition. Hint of the day, brushes past their best are worth keeping for weathering and such.
The Jinties are in rude health! And the tanker? £6.50 boxed from a shop I use in Hull.
That ain't Bert! Sounds like an interesting mongrel you've bought. Between us, you with that and me with the Scot we should set up Mongrel Rail!

If I get it up and running I think it would be a perfect loco for Mongrel Rail :D

Damn, I shall have to keep a look out for him :P as for the wagon that's a bargain you got yourself there :D

That's why that Jinty (one of mine from childhood) has a crew. My Dad decided it was the easiest way to hide the effing great motor. 20+ years on that crew are still waiting to come off shift! :o
I'll probably give the other Jinty a crew too, for the same reason.
As to Bert, yes that is indeed he Don!

Should have gone to... Oh, you already have!
Got home last night, so I ran a couple of the locos that haven't turned a wheel for a while. Oliver Cromwell, my old Tri-ang 3F, Airfix Prairie and the Black 5 all got a few circuits in, as did the Pug when it went to rescue the newly repaired Jinty which failed in the tunnel, while working the rake of ancient Tri-ang Insulfish vans.
Ah yes, the Jinty. It's a troublesome creature. Which is a shame as my original one which was much used and abused when I was a child still behaves impeccably. I see more bench time in its future...

The Jinty has spent the weekend in the naughty siding, as I had a new toy to play with!
Image
It was listed on Evilbay as having had a repaint. On investigating further it had had much more than that, it had had etched brass sides and a detailing kit fitted too! The only things letting it down were a less than brilliant paint job and some bits of the valve gear damaged and missing. These I shall replace when I find some, and I decided that the paint problem would be best hidden under a bit of muckying up rather than repainting and re-decalling it. So I got on, and fitted some of Jas' special coal too. I'm more than happy with the result!
Image
I also decided to repaint and mucky up my Tri-ang insulfish wagons as normal freight stock. i wanted them to be in the state known as 'seen better days' with replacement planks, doors etc.
Image
The new Fowler then went off round the layout with a tired mixed freight

Image
While I was at it I numbered and weathered up the recently acquired Airfix Fowler, completing its transfer from LMS to BR 'ownership'
Image
Speaking of Black Stuff, one for Jas!
Image
Who has supplied me with some wall sections. All I had to do was etch the blocks and paint and weather them. I think they have come out well.
Image
Cheers mate!
Finally, a couple of shots of the station, slowly being populated up

love the weathering on the new toy! and the fish vans look far better ans normal wagons too. May I suggest the same treatment for the kitat van and the green van with pig on it too? :)
Is Bert on the footbridge this time (yes he is! this is getting too easy )

Jas if you try it'll cost you your hands!
Harry, I think they look better too. I'm not allowed to touch the kitkat and pig van as they belong to my mrs! Bert is on the footbridge, purely by accident as i didn't intend to include him in this week's installment!
