Many thanks Daniel.

Now on with the construction:
The quoins were prepared by removing slivers down the middle to enable it to be bent at 90 degrees (eventually)

The first corner has one side cemented and will be given chance to set before bending it round the corner and cementing the other side.

I had only prepared 3 quoins as 2 surfaces will be covered by other buildings, so 1 quoin could be split to provide 2 half-corners.

Now for your roof Daniel - I decided to make the roof removeable in order to aid track cleaning and/or “mishaps” within the shed. It will be card covered with Slater’s Plastikard corrugated sheeting.
The card was not long enough to fit without splicing

A very belated thanks glencairn.

I put a lack of previous reply down to Sulking, Demotivation and Football (in that order I hasten to add).
The first roof truss was glued to the roof

Half a roof being tested for fit.

Then something made me look at the 2 drawings I had produced – I could not believe it, I’d measured twice but come up with 2 rather differently dimensioned drawings as can be seen here
The length of the shed in the top drawing exceeds that in the bottom drawing – no wonder there were clearance problems as I had built the shed oversize.

Apart from Rule 1 now becoming “Measure thrice”, it also includes “Don’t use Metric & Imperial graph paper together”! (Although I’m not sure that the latter actually contributed to the faux pas.)

A great sulk set in as I steeled myself to having to deconstruct and perform a “cut & shut” job.
This shows the shed built to the top drawing and the orange lines indicate where surgery is required. Thankfully the windows are all in the correct place so no remedial action needed in that respect.

I actually found the deconstruction more difficult than the original construction as getting at the brass sections to cut them was not at all straightforward.
Once they had been cut away I taped the walls and laid them on the Work Mate whilst I used a razor saw to make the cuts

Here’s one of the dissected ends – even at this stage it proved troublesome to dismantle it further (Mek-Pak is good stuff!!).

Luckily once it was all disassembled it went back together again ok, although it was not possible to salvage the original quoins, and new ones had to be cut.
The “patient” now fits the drawing much better.

Now, on with the roof (which didn't need splicing after all!).

G'Day Gents

I can totally understand were your coming from, being disgusted with yourself over making something so far out of true, nothing worse than (in my case) making a loco body and then finding it's 2mm to long or short Grrrrrrr, but you have redeemed yourself in finding the mistake and fixing it, it looks as good as new! :D

Nice job in the end. You may have felt bad about the imperial/metric confusion but not as bad as the guy at NASA who entered the altitude in feet instead of metres.

Re: The Summer of A.B.M.

Belated thanks to Daniel, manna & Bufferstop.

You’ve probably heard of A.B.C. (anything but Chardonnay), A.B.U. (anyone but United), well now you’ve heard of A.B.M. (anything but Modelling).

And that’s just how the Summer turned out to be.

However the last week has seen a revival of activity and progress has been made.

I needed to reposition the openings for the smoke extraction shafts.
New openings were cut

And the old holes covered up, and a couple of the roof trusses had to be re-sited.

The corrugated iron sheeting came next,
and for which I used Plastikard sheet 0436

Much scoring was applied to the sheet to try and replicate the individual sections.

Corrugation now finished and the area to be covered by the smoke louvres can be seen together with the holes for the 4 smoke extraction shafts

Strips of Plastikard will be glued along the edges of the roof at both ends

Much thought now has to be given to the build of these remaining features.

Amazing what a few scored lines can do to add to the realism. Bravo. :D

Re: Locoshed progress

Thanks manna.

I have decided that the nitty-gritty of construction is more appropriate to the Workbench threads than the Layouts under Construction threads. So this runs in conjunction with cross references to & from the Layout thread.

Progress has been made, resulting in this position:
