Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)
Re: Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)
Many thanks Daniel.
Now on with the construction:
Now for your roof Daniel - I decided to make the roof removeable in order to aid track cleaning and/or “mishaps” within the shed. It will be card covered with Slater’s Plastikard corrugated sheeting.

Re: Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)
A very belated thanks glencairn.
I put a lack of previous reply down to Sulking, Demotivation and Football (in that order I hasten to add).
Then something made me look at the 2 drawings I had produced – I could not believe it, I’d measured twice but come up with 2 rather differently dimensioned drawings as can be seen here
Apart from Rule 1 now becoming “Measure thrice”, it also includes “Don’t use Metric & Imperial graph paper together”! (Although I’m not sure that the latter actually contributed to the faux pas.)
A great sulk set in as I steeled myself to having to deconstruct and perform a “cut & shut” job.

Re: Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)
I actually found the deconstruction more difficult than the original construction as getting at the brass sections to cut them was not at all straightforward.
Luckily once it was all disassembled it went back together again ok, although it was not possible to salvage the original quoins, and new ones had to be cut.
Now, on with the roof (which didn't need splicing after all!).

Impressive!
In total balance with the rest of your beautiful work, Ex-Pat.

G'Day Gents
I can totally understand were your coming from, being disgusted with yourself over making something so far out of true, nothing worse than (in my case) making a loco body and then finding it's 2mm to long or short Grrrrrrr, but you have redeemed yourself in finding the mistake and fixing it, it looks as good as new!

Nice job in the end. You may have felt bad about the imperial/metric confusion but not as bad as the guy at NASA who entered the altitude in feet instead of metres.

Re: The Summer of A.B.M.
Belated thanks to Daniel, manna & Bufferstop.
You’ve probably heard of A.B.C. (anything but Chardonnay), A.B.U. (anyone but United), well now you’ve heard of A.B.M. (anything but Modelling).
And that’s just how the Summer turned out to be.
However the last week has seen a revival of activity and progress has been made.
I needed to reposition the openings for the smoke extraction shafts.

The corrugated iron sheeting came next,
Strips of Plastikard will be glued along the edges of the roof at both ends
Much thought now has to be given to the build of these remaining features.

Amazing what a few scored lines can do to add to the realism. Bravo.

Re: Locoshed progress
Thanks manna.
I have decided that the nitty-gritty of construction is more appropriate to the Workbench threads than the Layouts under Construction threads. So this runs in conjunction with cross references to & from the Layout thread.
Progress has been made, resulting in this position:
I have gone into more detail in my Workbench thread at:

Re: Hawick Sand Drying House
Thanks Daniel.
Further progress can now be seen at:

This covers the Sand Drying House construction whilst I awaited collection of Plastikard corrugated sheeting.
