Track plan ideas
Re: Track plan ideas
Oh I see what u mean... u mean for connecting them up... hmmatnas666 wrote:3 is fine on the inner
Re: Track plan ideas
Personally I don't see any great need for them to be connected. More hassle than it's worth. There's still more than enough operational interest with them being separate, and a very good design.
Re: Track plan ideas
Just had a play to show some variations (lots are possible.)
![Image](http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu170/Emettman/Track%20plans/door5_zpsle1ia8pl.jpg)
Squared up the high level to get maximum run, but also to get more of the low-level terminus inside the main operating area.
A simpler lower layout with a 3ft turntable fiddle yard eliminates the need for any extra duck-under access area.
Drawback: the turntable couldn't be effectively hidden, needing to be accepted as an offstage marshaling area.

This time the return loop contains storage for four trains, two each on the long loops sitting under the high level track,
The return loop gets two sidings for a works or quarry.
Again, no extra access are is needed, though the left-hand return loop point is about as far as I'd be happy to go for a stretch. It would have access two ways,
I've suggested "mountains with gorges" for scenic effect and also to allow the unlikely branching off of the return loop to be hidden.
(which does produce a ghost train effect! Very much personal preference, here)

Hay just a quick one... Would there be away may be to put some thing like these

(img borrowed for example) at/near door. But actually some how make a bridge? Dunno

Re: Track plan ideas
There are lots of ways to do lift-out sections, removable bridges, gate pivots, lifting flaps... but the thing to be avoided, which very much applies here, is any arrangement which prevents the door being opened from the outside.
A bridging section against a door which opens inward effectively bars it, which is just not safe should a person in the room be sudden'y taken ill or have a significant accident.
I did try some sketches looking at taking the main line more into the lot left corner, but little was gained, because as well as the door arc there needs to be a place for someone to stand clear of the door arc so that the door can be opened/shut without them being in the way.
Chris.

As do I!luckymucklebackit wrote:I still swear by the C.J. Freezer plans books, even though they have gone out of favour recently. His plans are fine as project outlines, just don't try to reproduce them exactly as some of the track geometry is a bit unrealistic.
Re: Track plan ideas
Now to think about how the dam to make it.
Also wondering how much more a sliding door would add to the layout

Re: Track plan ideas
Even with a sliding door you still have to have a duckunder or lifting section so no real gain.
If you look at the Freezer booklets they have a few in your sort of size where the track doesn't go across the door at all but doubles back on itself at each end. That may be a way round it...
Sort of like the left hand one of these two:

In reverse order, not an awful lot with the sketches shown.
How to make it: lots of options, especially for a permanent layout
One option, which can be good for offering tidy space for more than just trains, is to rest the layout on a selection of storage units of the same height
(or bookcase units, perhaps, for narrower boards.)
I did this for a hospital layout, (but strapped the units together and put the whole thing on castors)

The top "baseboard" there was just 1/2 inch chipboard, doubled up in thickness where it projected or had to bridge between units.

Re: Track plan ideas
Rite guys i have decided that some how i would like storage for 3 loco's to be added. It will needs to be able to get on all lines, Not worried about get them back as reverse is not an issue.. As this storage is gonna be a shed (well actually a museum)
If this is at all possible hmm
