Coal mine is going up as soon as I get round to going to Antics and getting the H gob and I beams

Dave I have soooooooo much space that eventually I hope to have a few circuits going on a couple of levels

Working on the control panel for the engine sidings at the moment will post pics when the stuff arrives from rapid electronics :D

First control panel for the engine sidings ready to be wired into points motors

I am using bi colour LEDs (Red / Green) and push to make switches to save on using the 5 quid ripoffs from hornby

Image

The switches at the bottom are to make each siding track live or isolated

wow, nice panel :^)
What kind of point motors are you using? I assume they are switched for the LEDs. And a CDU for the push buttons?
how did you do the point symbols on that, XtrkCad?

Thanks Rob

The Symbols are indeed from xtrackcad simply zoomed and placed in rows then printed

The wiring for the points motors will be through a CDU when I get a decent PCB schematic

Point motors are hornby and the switches for the leds are pl 13 from peco

The wiring I will use will be Cat 5 cable as it carries 8 core which is ideal as i need 7 core for each point
Bi colour leds are ideal as they will show green for a point set and red for a point set against
I will also be wiring signals up to the control panal to automatically set signals appropriate to a points setting

The possibilites are boundless

the schematic below shows the wiring of the pl13 to the leds

Fairly straight forward but I think you'll need a resistor (1) in series with the leds
Are you going to make your own PCB for the CDU or just use the circuit? CDU kits are fairly cheap (over here at least) I just bought one. It was cheaper than it would have been to buy all the bits individually, including vero (strip) board. But I don't know if you have electronics hobby shops over there?

The LEDs are rated at 5v so no resistor ness

I think I will make my own PCB for the CDU

anyone know any good circuit diagrams ? :?: :?:

ha, I shoulda thought of them.. I've got an article in there (making little people).
There's a book called model railway electronics which, I believe, has a project for a CDU among other things.
I also found this: http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/CDPSU.html
but I didn't think much of his circuits :^) I mean nice drawings and everthing but I thought they were a little bit complicated

Progress is slow at the moment due to having just fitted a new kitchen but the first long tunnel is in place

just hope the coal miners dont sink the shaft through the middle of it :D
