Once I had been educated in the matter of switched section common return wiring, all my DC layouts have had a 'kill switch' in the common return, in addition to the switch per section enabling local power off.

DCC makes all this redundant, the Lenz red button has never failed me yet, and since one always has a handset in hand when operating; it's always right where it needs to be, simplicity rules.

there is a lot to be said for handsets, did used to run a Lenz system before THE EVENT some years back and it worked well. the computer interface was a pain though (and stupidly expensive)

could be a thing to consider

DO NOT THINK ABOUT THE EVENT

in practice my old OO stuff was stored in a garage, the roof part fell in, the lenz control gear was in a plastic box

turns out plastic boxes are quite good at keeping water in, the lot got skipped. only a few locos and not much stock with it, the Lenz 100 system was more annoying though

Ah, I do sympathise, there's a Canon F1 body of mine somewhere on the floor of the Zambezi thanks to poor handling of a passing speedboat. I had at least taken the 300mm f2.8 off it a bare minute before THE EVENT.

have a couple of push buttons on order to have a crack at this, illuminated proper industrial ones - not the "oh dear" mushroom head ones, shrouded ones to avoid leaning on them but easy to press. two sets of contacts, one normally open (so good to drive the built in light perhaps) and one normally closed (perfect for an E-Stop circuit)

should be about some time next week
