Cutting the roof with angle grinder that’s all I have.
IMG_8384.jpeg
Trying to think how to bend it I wedged it into the box sections for the wagons warmed it and pushed.
IMG_8385.jpeg
Turned out well.

Welding it was a nightmare but I did it. Added hinges for grill and tubes to front for lights.

Here’s the body lifted off.

Found some scrap to make side boxes.
IMG_8352.jpeg
Welded in and plugged a couple of holes under big window.

Handles. Rails. Rear light tubes next.

That's a lovely smooth curve considering that (from the photos) you haven't formed it around anything.
Great work. :)

Thanks bud.
Yeah I just bent it by hand.

Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours after work Friday

Drilled the holes for the rear lights and holes to plug the angle under the windows.
IMG_8505.jpeg
Welded all in.
IMG_8506.jpeg

Finished the side box and cleaned it up.
Added a bit of tube for what I think is fuel tank.
Then cut some ovals from a bit of scrap.

Thanks bud it’s coming on now.
Need to finish the body as it keeps getting surface rust.

Couple of hours yesterday so I made 4 air filter housings.
IMG_8525.jpeg
There’s a few things about it that have been bugging me. The main one is the side box. I bought the laser cut panels and in my opinion they arnt right. The side pieces had holes cut out and I didn’t really have a choice about the layout as the matching doors were supplied. However this left a space for 1 longer than normal box and no space for the generator box.

So today I cut it to shorten it.

Found some scrap
IMG_8527.jpeg
And got it sorted. Now I’m pleased with it. Looks a lot better.

Barks I'm in awe.
I'm certain your modification to 'Make it fit' is probably what went on
at almost every locomotive engineering works.
I suppose for every job there are 'Plans', followed by engineering drawings,
then working drawings finally workshop fixes.

worked on a project to fit a modification to Class 142 dustbins, the modification was produced as a kit, from the drawings, as such the project fell over (this is why the company I worked for came in) because the kits didn't fit, every single one needed adjusting, in slightly different ways

oh yes, and the 142 was a 24v earthing fault on wheels

Cheers Geoff.
Yes I’m sure you’re right.
I’ve looked at quite a few pics now of real 08 shunters and things seam to be in slightly different places and look slightly different.

Hehe. Sounds like most non genuine car body panels.

Did you used to work on locos then.

Hi Barks,

aleopardstail has had real 'Experience', me, just a Mr muddle at everything while a
Professional logistics & transport manager. I will say the only one I know of who is a
qualified welder.
Even when you leave things to professionals, check, check, check. On an engine re-build
the newly fitted crank shaft wouldn't turn - The final finish hadn't be done on just one
journal. As an impoverished (mad) amateur rally driver I needed to be able to do everything.

train engine rebuild, by the OEM, came back, failed very quickly, as did a few more. curious, not had the problem before.

on inspection a valve cam was installed backwards leading to excessive oil pressure one way and no flow the other..

doh...

except.. not quite, the initial blame went to the fitter concerned, a new lad, but qualified, turned out his "mistake" was following the instructions which said to fit that part backwards, others knew and ignored that but they never got the instructions changed
