What instructions would you expect. Reset CV8 to value 8 a few times to make sure it sticks. Check it works, then readdress it to suit.

assembling it sounds scary but its not, DCC-EX has an installer than will configure the software on the arduino, JMRI is... interesting.. but Decoder Pro isn't that hard to use and there are plenty of videos

the hardware is also decently cheap on eBay. not hard if the PC is nowhere near the layout to have one of these beasties on a desk connected to a length of set track straight either
This is a fun idea. I watched a few videos and don't have a 100 percent grasp on the steps of assembley/ installing software but could be an interesting project. Im going to look further at this.

A bit of a trek from Browns Plains to us, but a nice day out too. We're in England at the moment, but coming home soon. I have a Lenz system that can do all the reading/writing that you want. We'd just need the instructions from Hornby.

Let us know if you fancy a drive.
I don't want to impose but if you're comfortable when you're back I'd be pleased to come for a drive up.
I looked up the Zimo decoders through Buckambool trains and they dont seem expensive. I may well purchase these to get a few of the DCC ready locos I've got converted over.
Ultimately if the P2 decoder can be reset, saving the sound, it would be a win.

I was meaning other CV's for any other adjustments there might be.

CV8 to a value of 8 is the "reset to defaults" value, a few times and then the thing should eventually respond to address 3 and you should be able to re-programme as normal

quick check, because I have learned the hard way to not assume anything - you are doing this on a programming track and not on the main track? asking as not all decoders support "programming on the main"
