Not lack of determination Ironduke, rather a lack of skills and correct tools. I've never been very adept at all this accuracy stuff. :oops:
I don't know about manual or automatic closing on the real ones. I just bought the kit as I liiked the gate over others I saw not realizing I had to put a lot of it together like gluing the mesh and angled pole (which is actually a peice of cord in the kit) on. :lol:

The brass rod gives me more confidence moving forward. Thanks Tricky.
Unfortunatly I don't have a vernier caliper to get the exact measurement of the locating nipple although I may be able to borrow one.
My local model shop is neither very local nor well stocked sadly so by measuring the gate's locating nipple with the vernier I may have to chance an online purchase like these... although they are very excessive for my meagre needs.

I have seen these which I thought could use to connect together the vertical brass rod coming down from the gate and what ever comes up off the servo head/arm.

The smallest I've found are 2mm-2.3mm.
I still would need to buy the metal rod part that attaches the servo head/arm to this coupler though.

Connector size is not critical, it does not have to be the same size as brass wire, nor be concentric.

The mechanism does not have to be an precision engineering masterpiece, as long as the rod and tube are a reasonable fit, most else will work with relatively wide tolerances.

You could use a plastic lollipop stick and a paper clip!

For some reason the sale returns to the default listing but if you use the drop down selection menu on the sale you can see listed "SFT9" with 1, 2 and 3mm tubing in the pack.

Unless you mean the brass shaft connector also linked to?

After so many frustrations with my interest in model rail, and lack of space at the moment, this is on the back burner while I concentrate on wooden model boat building. :0)
