I agree with you, its a ghost of its former glorious self. and like so many areas around the network today, the trees and bushes have been allowed to grow up so they obscure so much of the view.

like so many other lines around the UK that were closed by Beeching, they would have probably been profitable in this day and age, especially with all the chartered trains, and steam specials running on the lines today
quite a few, not all of course, were profitable back then, it was in large part accounting trickery that closed quite a few - e.g. ignoring the smaller lines were feeding passengers and freight to the larger ones, booking the numbers to the larger lines then wondering why usage dropped when the branches closed

surveys done at odd times of the year and so on, basically demonstrating "how to lie with statistics", but the decision had already been made so there you go, some rationalisation was needed of course and it didn't help that the second part of Dr Beeching's work was quietly shelved for the most part

In case it is of interest, here's the other two photos that I took showing different areas. You can just make out the platform edging on the right through the vegetation.

This is looking in the other direction.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been on Holiday, no internet, so no replies. Those pictures are great, but it really shows how a once great station has been completely ruined. Very sad.

On a more positive note, I have made another loco purchase. 34067 Tangmere, which I have been repairing, it had a few issues when I bought it (I knew about them) but for £90 I thought it was worth it.

The loco had a broken rear trailing truck, the wheel wouldn't stay in the frame, because the piece of metal that is supposed to retain it was missing which I have repaired using a small piece of brass sheet, a tender step was broken and detached, the wiring to the loco tender drawbar had broken off at the solder joint. The wheels were all caked up with thick carbon deposits, and the model looked like it hadn't seen any lubricant in years.

It now runs superbly fitted with a Laisdcc decoder.

Hi folks, its been a while since I last posted on this forum, part in due to problems with depression, which I seem to be managing with medication now, it has certainly calmed my moods!

I decided that the scenery was looking a bit tired in places, and there where certain areas that I was not entirely satisfied with. So I have spent quite a considerable amount of time modifying the scenery, aligning and levelling track where there were uneven parts, and kinks, or doglegs. I installed a new backscene, which I think has made a nice addition.

I really like the slightly misty backscene, the way it extends (but does not distract from) the layout.
