Re: Gateside & Northbridge
should be good, have found its wonderful to take a plan and upscale it a bit, not really making trains longer, but just spacing stuff out more, wider curves etc and space to breathe
sounds a really good size that loft good with natural lighting too

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Hi all,
Well 8 months have passed during which I was sure that I would have commenced building, however for one reason or another it got delayed nearly as often as a Caledonian Macbraynes Ferry.
We had some minor issues with the roof and had this replaced in December, which had the bonus of a new dormer window, glad it didn't start before this work as the amount of dirt and debris would have caused problems. Planning also stopped and started, and I have today just finished the plan that I am totally satisfied with. Hopefully work will commence in the next week or so.
Plan attached, going to ge a long and staged build, but as most of you know, I don't do small and simple!!

Interesting plan, for to complicated for me, 10km of wiring, but I'm looking forward to see it come together.

Hi all
Overall dimensions are 19ft by 11ft, with 2ft 6in wide boards all round. Stage 1 will be one side of the layout with a temporary fiddle yard. Couple of closer photos of the drawing with the hidden flap raised showing the low level station. This is all essentially what I had built on the last layout with a few tweaks permitted with the larger space available. More will be explained as the project develops.

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Hi All
As per the last build, I have started to prepare the control panels first before laying track as this speeds up testing and fault finding. The schematic panels also show a bit clearer the track plan for phase 1 of the grand plan. We also have a new location "Croftpark Riverside", the name once again comes from a street name, this time in the Crofthill area of Glasgow where my son resides.
The timber sheet has been purchased to build the layout, the only fly in the ointment is that my son has decided to move, and as a result a lot of his stuff is now in my loft, interesting stuff, anyone heard of this Warhammer idea, plastic kits, paint etc, not 100% different to what I do!!!

One of my sons was into Warhammer for a while. He was more interested in the modelling than the gaming I think.luckymucklebackit wrote:

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
on the plus side, if they have that plastic crack addiction model railways can be a way to dial back the spending...
* looks at shelf after shelf of plastic, resin and metal models looking back at me *
Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Good to see the G&N is back on the drawing board. A lot better than previous.

Re: Gateside & Northbridge
Hi all
At last some tangible evidence of the layout coming into being. The heavy main frame and support legs now in place and a start made to the sub frame. All the "non-ply" timber so far has been salvaged, my roofer over estimated how many 2×1 battens he needed so the surplus went straight into the loft.
Ply was bought last week so I had a trial fitting this afternoon, think it might be big enough for a first stage
Onwards and upwards

Those sloping roofs are a real pain - I was so glad to to put the First Aid Box away when I got to Newry and set up in the garage! If you get a £ for each time your head makes contact you'll be a rich man!
