A toy firm will bag £20 million after striking a deal to sell the almost 70-year-old slot car racing brand Scalextric.

Hornby has agreed to the sale of the business and its intellectual property to family-owned investment vehicle Purbeck Capital Partners.

The company is led by Mark Brown, the former boss of Sazerac, the US spirits giant behind brands including Southern Comfort, Fireball and BuzzBallz.

It would be interesting to know if that is enough to offset their debts in the hope the company can survive.

the slot car stuff is interesting, a related but different hobby.

saw the money is in the boxed sets, the extra track and extra cars go to collectors, the boxed sets are the main thing.

have one of the digital sets, the base unit broke, can't be bothered to make one and the new ones are silly money and not as good. six car racing can be a good laugh

thing is there is also Carrera, which needs a bit more space, and the market really isn't up to two largely incompatible brands

Inevitable given the company's dire financial situation. I can well see other perhaps smaller parts being sold off over the next couple of years.

Hopefully, it gives Hornby some breathing space.

It can be hard making decisions so one can make hens meet, as one can't exactly go back on them if things don't turn out.

to be honest there are a few other bits they could do, IIRC they are linked now to Warlord Games. would seem an ideal way to have a range of terrain - the CAD stuff for 1:56 (28mm gaming) can easily scale to 1:76.2 and vice versa if they want to try model kits for buildings. also combining the scenic materials range would make a lot of sense as its exactly the same stuff
