Ingenious machinery but still plenty of grunt work. I like the chap at about 3:30. Frozen on the spot as he stares in fascination at the camera.

Actually, it reminds me of my time in the government 'mud gang' when I was young. No signs of health and safety. My work outfit every day was a pair of stubby shorts (no shirt in summer) and my father's old army boots. Some blokes didn't even wear shoes!

I always assumed death or injury would happen to someone else until it happened to me (injury I mean, not death) but that's another story.

I was amazed how much track laying they got done in such a short space of time.
