old user returning

Post by roadie stu »

Good Evening

I am returning to the forum after a long break, My former layout was called Oldcastle,

I am starting a new DCC layout, so will no doubt be quizzing everyone as I go on,

the layout will be loft based, and will be modular as it will be easier to construct and get into the loft (and extend as needed), also a house move is something that will hopefully happen in the next few years,

the plan for the moment is to have an oval layout 10' x 5', fiddle yard on one side, and the other side will be based on the track plan of West Ruislip of around 1980, this will give me a 4 track run ( 2 relief lines and two main) along with a couple of sidings, this will hopefully allow local/freight trains to go on the relief lines, and express trains on the main lines,

due to the mix of rolling stock (steam era big 4 (GW/LNER/LMS) and BR (mostly former GW/BR 9f's/A3 and a merchant navy ) I have two lines of thought

1 - as the real line was GW/Great Central/LNER - I can run my Big 4 GW/LNER loco's along with the LMS "on diversion", The BR locomotives and stock are not an issue - also I used to watch the trips from Marylebone to Stratford upon Avon at West Ruislip in the 1980's hauled by various preserved locomotives, so I can sort of get away using all my stock at any time

will start a new thread on the layout once I get the frames and base boards together

regards
Stuart

Likewise, good to read of your return. One little hint regarding DCC, the hammer is definitely redundant...
