Out and back

Post by MarkOg »

Gents

Thinking of constructing a short out and back single 009 gauge line for narrow gauge representation on my 00 DCC layout. Is there a clever (electronic?) device out there which would mean the loco automatically changes direction once it reaches the end of the line. In other words, constantly shuttles back and forth.

If DC then yes several such shuttle modules, e.g. Gaugemaster SS1. This module can also be rigged to run from DCC - instructions in the GM newsletter archive.
If DCC then there are similar modules, but also the job can be done with a 5-diode pack set across a rail break at each end - only if the loco decoder supports ADCC/ABC control.

I have to keep reminding myself not to be tempted now that a Double Fairlie is available. Apparently it can manage a six inch radius curve...

Thanks gents. Looks just the job.......What do you think would be a suitable 16V AC supply for the unit?

I use the Aux out of the back of an HM2000 controller as power to the shuttle unit and one of the speed controlled outputs to run the track. Mine is a DC tram shuttle running alongside a DCC train layout.

I used the DC Shutttle from Block Signalling on my Christmas end to end, it works as it should, easy to install and runs of 12v dc
