Thanks Pete but Maplins is online only now, although I couldn't find anything useful searching for "JST".
The female socket needs to match the pins already present on the pick up wagon and I'm not sure how these are measured to find the matching socket.
I've even tried hunting for the service sheet on Hornby's website but to no avail.

I think the pins are measured between centres. With the pins facing you, measure from the left side of the left pin to the left side of the right pin, this gives you the centre measurement.
